Iardanos
Iardanos ( el, Ιάρδανος) is a former municipality in Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pyrgos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 62.723 km2. Its seat of administration was the village Vounargo. Iardanos is enclosed by the municipal units of Amaliada to the north, and Pyrgos to the south. Iardanos ( el, Ιάρδανος) is a former municipality in Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pyrgos, of which it is a municipal unit. Fonaitika ( el, Φοναΐτικα) is a village in the municipal unit of Iardanos, Elis, Greece. It is situated at the foot of low hills, 2 km east of Vounargo, 2 km west of Vrochitsa, 2 km southwest of Koryfi and 8 km north of Pyrgos. Its population is 128 people (2011 census). Vrochitsa ( el, Βροχίτσα) is a settlement in the municipal unit of Iardanos, Greece. It is situated in a valley surrounded by low hills, at 80 m elevation. It is 2 km southwest of Elaionas, 2 km east of Fonaitika, 4 km east of Vounargo and 7 km north of Pyrgos. Its population is 359 people (2011 census). There is an elementary school, a church and a square. Katsaros ( el, Κατσαρός) is a settlement in the municipal unit of Iardanos, Elis, Greece. It is situated at the foot of low hills, at 80 m elevation. In 2011 its population was 310. Alpochori, Elis
Alpochori ( el, Αλποχώρι), is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Iardanos, Elis, Greece. Alpochori is situated on a low hill, 3 km west of Vounargo, 9 km northwest of Pyrgos and 7 km southeast of Amaliada. The Greek National Road 9 ( Patras - Pyrgos) passes west of the village. Population Community The community of Alpochori consists of three villages: Alpochóri (''Αλποχώρι'', 216 inhabitants in 2011), Kapandríti (''Καπανδρίτι'', 35 inhabitants in 2011) and Chanákia (''Χανάκια'', 469 inhabitants in 2011). Sports In 1978, the football (soccer) club ''Aetos Alpochori'' was founded, it presently plays in the second division of the local championship. The team plays in its field that is named ''Tsaouseio'' and is named after Dionysios Tsaousis, who donated the field to the community. Koryfi, Elis
Koryfi ( el, Κορυφή meaning pointy) is a settlement in the municipal unit of Iardanos, Elis, Greece. For the centuries the name of the village is Koukouvitsa (Κουκουβίτσας)- the bulgarian word for the bird cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) as many others bulgarnan names of settlements, fortresses and places wide sped on the Balkans, the bulgarian slavic name in the cold war years change to the present greek in 1955. It is situated in a hilly area, at 290 m elevation. It is 4 km northeast of Vounargo, 6 km southwest of Peristeri, 9 km southeast of Amaliada and 10 km north of Pyrgos. Its population in 2011 was 223 for the village and 246 for the community, which includes the monastery Fragkopidima. Fortress of Koukouvitsa (Κάστρο Κουκουβίτσας), built without bricks, but form well formed big stone blocks as bulgarian medieval fortresses, is located about 2.5 km north of the community. Pyrgos ( el, Πύργος, meaning "tower") is a city in the northwestern Peloponnese, Greece, capital of the regional unit of Elis and the seat of the Municipality of Pyrgos. Elis or Ilia ( el, Ηλεία, ''Ileia'') is a historic region in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. It is administered as a regional unit of the modern region of Western Greece. Its capital is Pyrgos. Until 2011 it was Elis Prefecture, covering the same territory. The modern regional unit is nearly coterminous with the ancient Elis of the classical period.
