Ian Reid (Alberta Politician)
Ian Wilson Carlyle Reid (May 27, 1931 – January 18, 2016) was a provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1979 to 1989. During his time in office, Reid served various portfolios in the Executive Council of Alberta under the Governments of Peter Lougheed and Don Getty from 1983 to 1989. Political career Reid ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature for the first time in the 1979 Alberta general election. He won the electoral district of Edson by a wide margin defeating three other candidates to hold it for the governing Progressive Conservative party. He served his first term in the back benches. Reid won his second term in office in the 1982 Alberta general election. A year after the election on December 20, 1983, Premier Peter Lougheed appointed Reid to his first position in the Alberta Executive Council as Solicitor General. Iona Community
The Iona Community, founded in 1938 by George MacLeod, is an ecumenical Christian community of men and women from different walks of life and different traditions within Christianity. It and its publishing house, Wild Goose Publications, are headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, and its activities take place on the island of Iona, Mull, in Argyll and Bute and Glasgow. History The community began as a project led by George MacLeod, a minister of the Church of Scotland in Govan, Glasgow, to close the gap which he perceived between the church and working people. He took a group of ministers and working men to Iona to rebuild the ruined medieval Iona Abbey together. Friendly Street Poets
Friendly Street Poets, often referred to as just Friendly Street, is a poetry reading group and publisher in Adelaide, South Australia, established in 1975. History Friendly Street Poets was inaugurated as a fortnightly poetry reading on 11 November 1975, organised by Andrew Taylor, Richard Tipping and Ian Reid. The first meeting took place on the roof of the former Gordon Sim Choon fireworks factory, on Union Street (off Rundle Street) in the East End of Adelaide. Then Chief Justice of South Australia, John Bray, himself a poet, was present. Jenny Boult was also instrumental in setting up the group. It soon became a monthly event, and after about a year of meeting at the Media Resource Centre (then at 1 Union Street), the group moved to the Federal Box Factory. In 1977 a selection of the best poets from that year's readings was published as the ''Friendly Street Reader'', and a similar volume has been produced annually since then. Ian Reid (born 6 February 1951) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a striker for Dundee United, Queen of the South, Airdrieonians and Forfar Athletic. Career Reid was born in Glasgow and started his career as a youth player at Nottingham Forest. However he was unable to secure a senior contract. He joined Dundee United in July 1970, making his senior debut the following month. Ian Angus "Ross" Reid (born July 31, 1952) is a Canadian former politician who mostly recently served as the Chief of Staff to Newfoundland and Labrador Premier's Kathy Dunderdale and Tom Marshall. Reid is a former Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament who served as the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency under Prime Minister Kim Campbell. Ian Reid (manager)
Ian Reid is an English businessman, formerly a talent manager known for his association with the rock band XTC. He was originally the owner of a Swindon club named The Affair. After becoming XTC's third manager in the mid 1970s, he brokered deals for the group to perform at more popular venues such as the Hammersmith Red Cow, The Nashville Rooms and Islington's Hope And Anchor, which led them to a major label contract with Virgin Records. He remained XTC's manager until 1982, when it was discovered that he had mishandled their revenue stream. Once it was apparent, a lawsuit was filed by the band, while he counter-sued for "unpaid commission on royalties." For the next decade, the entirety of the group's earnings would be invested in the continued litigation. Ian C. Read (born 1953) is a Scottish-born American business executive and a chartered accountant, serving as executive chairman of pharmaceutical company Pfizer. He was succeeded as CEO by Albert Bourla on 1 January 2019, becoming executive chairman. Early life Read was born in Forfar, Scotland, to a Scottish mother, but his parents returned to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) when he was six-weeks-old, and he grew up there.
