Ian Prentice
Ian George Prentice (born 9 November 1948) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Prentice was born in Brisbane, Queensland, the son of Dr. Peter George Driver Prentice and his wife Joan Elizabeth (née Masters). He attended Shorncliffe State School before completing his schooling at St Paul's School at Bald Hills. He then graduated from the University of Queensland with a LL.B. Working as a barrister, he also worked for the federal government in census and statistics and was a research officer for John Moore, the federal member for Ryan. On 2 July 1977 Prentice married Jane Righetti and together had a son and daughter. Jane is the former federal member for Ryan. Public life Prentice, representing the Liberal Party, was the member for Toowong in the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1980 until his defeat in 1983. Electoral District Of Toowong
Toowong was an Queensland Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1888 to 1992. It was centred on the Northern Brisbane, Queensland, Brisbane suburb of Toowong, Queensland, Toowong. The ginger group, in Queensland politics was a group of Liberal Party MLAs during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, who despite nominally being a part of the government, were opposed to some of the policies of their senior coalition partner, the National Party. Initially a small informal grouping within the Liberal Party, the group came to wield greater and greater power within the Liberal partyroom, culminating in Terry White's successful leadership challenge in 1983, and the party's subsequent defeat and loss of influence at the 1983 election. The Division of Ryan is an Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. History The division was created in 1949 and is named after T. J. Ryan, Premier of Queensland from 1915 to 1919. Ryan is located in south east Queensland, and is generally based on the western suburbs of the City of Brisbane. John Moore (Australian Politician)
John Colinton Moore (born 16 November 1936) is a former Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the House of Representatives for over 25 years, serving between 1975 and 2001, and was a minister in the Fraser and Howard governments. Background and early career Moore was born in Rockhampton, Queensland. He was raised on a cattle station west of Bowen. His early education was through the Australian correspondence system used for isolated families. He finished his secondary education at The Armidale School, an Anglican boarding school for boys, before entering the University of Queensland and graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce with additional study in Accounting. Before he entered politics, Moore had a very successful career as a businessman and stock broker. He spent four years (1960–1963) with A.R. A barrister is a type of lawyer in common law jurisdictions. Barristers mostly specialise in courtroom advocacy and litigation. Bald Hills is the northernmost suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the Bald Hills had a population of 6,502 people. Geography Bald Hills is a largely residential suburb. It is mostly surrounded by bushland, but in the last few years some of the bush areas have been cleared to make way for new residential areas. It also borders onto the Bald Hills Flats – a large flood plain on the western side of the suburb that is used for cattle grazing. The South Pine River flows through the flood plain and forms the western border of the suburb.
