Ian Pratt (politician)
Ian George Pratt (born 21 June 1937) was an Australian politician, and a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council from 1974 until 1986 representing the seat of Lower West Province for the Liberal Party. Biography Pratt was born in Northam, Western Australia, to Herbert Pratt, a farmer, and Maude (née Benbow). He was educated in East Miling and Pithara primary schools, and at Northam Senior High School before gaining his Teacher's Certificate in 1956 at Claremont Teachers College. He then worked as a teacher in primary schools at Cannington (1957–1958), Rivervale (1959–1962) and Armadale (1963–1974). On 10 May 1958 at St Peter's Church in Victoria Park, he married Shirley Harvey, with whom he was to have two sons and two daughters. From 1969 to 1975 he served on the Shire of Armadale-Kelmscott as a councillor, and was elected deputy president of the Shire in 1974. Northam, Western Australia
Northam () is a town in the Australian state of Western Australia, situated at the confluence of the Avon and Mortlock Rivers, about east-northeast of Perth in the Avon Valley. At the 2016 census, Northam had a population of 6,548. Northam is the largest town in the Avon region. It is also the largest inland town in the state not founded on mining. It was named by Governor Stirling, probably after a village of the same name in Devon, England. Armadale is a suburb of Perth within the City of Armadale, located on the south-eastern edge of the Perth metropolitan region. The major junction of the South Western and Albany Highways, which connect Perth with the South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia respectively, is located within the suburb. Beryl Jones
Beryl Lillian Jones (née Davies; born 30 July 1932) is a former Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1986 to 1993. Jones was born in Bootle, Lancashire, England, and after leaving school worked as a nurse. She emigrated to Australia in the 1950s, and re-trained as a schoolteacher, subsequently teaching at various high schools in the Perth metropolitan area. Jones was elected to the Town of Armadale council in 1981, and served until the 1986 state election, when she was elected to the Legislative Council's Lower West Province The Lower West Province was a two-member electoral province of the Western Australian Legislative Council, located in the Peel and South West region of the state. 1974 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 30 March 1974 to elect all 51 members to the Legislative Assembly and 15 members to the 30-seat Legislative Council. The one-term Labor government, led by Premier John Tonkin, was defeated by the Liberal Party, led by Opposition Leader Charles Court. Overview The Liberal Party won the election after a campaign focused mostly on inflation, industrial unrest, states' rights and education. The outgoing Tonkin government had had a turbulent ride in its three years of office, having only a one-seat majority in the Assembly and being outnumbered two-to-one in the Council. The City of Armadale is a local government area in the southeastern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, about southeast of Perth's central business district. The City covers an area of , much of which is state forest rising into the Darling Scarp to the east, and had a population of almost 80,000 as at the 2016 Census.
