Ian Pooley
Ian Pooley (born Ian Pinnekamp in 1973) is a German record producer and DJ. While incorporating samples of various musical genres, Pooley's creations are usually classified as house or tech house with Brazilian influence. Biography Pooley's music career began in 1993. Fascinated by producers in Chicago and Detroit, he brought his first machines and immediately started writing house and techno music, which kickstarted a multi-decade-spanning career playing to hugely diverse audiences. In 1998, Pooley made his sole appearance on the prestigious BBC Radio One Essential Mix, which featured tracks by Slam, Jeff Mills and his own productions. After a long stretch with V2 Records, in which Pooley released several very successful albums (''Meridian'' and ''Since Then''), Pooley left V2 and started his own record company, Pooled Music, in 2003. Cirque du Soleil (, ; "Circus of the Sun" or "Sun Circus") is a Canadian entertainment company and the largest contemporary circus producer in the world. Located in the inner-city area of Saint-Michel, it was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul on 16 June 1984 by former street performers Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix. DJ Tonka (born Thomas-René Gerlach on June 24, 1973 in Mainz, West Germany) is a German electronic dance musician. He is also known as Tonka, Chip Tunes, and Thomastic. Musical career In his early career, Thomas-René Gerlach worked with fellow producer Ian Pooley in the groups Outrage, Space Cube, and T'N'I. Together they produced several records in techno, progressive house and breakbeat. In 1996, the partnership was dissolved (an EP with unreleased tracks was still released in 1997), and coincidentally, both started producing a more mainstream-friendly sound. Esthero ( ; born Jenny-Bea Englishman on December 23, 1978 in Stratford, Ontario) is a Canadian singer-songwriter who lives in Los Angeles, California. The name ''Esthero'' refers both to the singer and formerly to the two-person team of herself and producer Doc McKinney. Esthero is a portmanteau of "Esther the hero"; she claims to have gotten the name by combining the name of the heroine (Esther) and last line ("If I am to be the hero, then I cannot fly from darkness") of the film from Sylvia Plath's novel ''The Bell Jar''. "Since Then" is an album by German DJ Ian Pooley. The album spawned two hit singles: " 900 Degrees" and "Balmes (A Better Life)," featuring Esthero. The album was intended as an audio travelog to complement the travel photography included in the album's booklet. Release The album was released on 10 October 2000, on V2 Records; it is now out-of-print. Critical reception The album received mixed-to-positive reviews upon its release. In a review for Allmusic, John Bush praised the album's programming and overall sound, concluding that "'Since Then' is a breath of fresh air on a stifling summer day."
