Ian Peacock
Ian Peacock (born 14 December 1962) is a radio presenter and writer. He has appeared regularly on BBC Radio 4 since the late 1980s. Described as "a natural broadcaster" by ''The Observer'', he has a Gold Sony Award for feature-making (Radio Academy Awards). He was named by ''The Independent'' as a 'Media Star 2006' – one of the media people who would "have the most impact" over the year. Early life Ian Peacock was born in Westerhope, a village in Northumberland to the west of Newcastle upon Tyne. His radio career began unexpectedly in 1976 when he was aged 14. During work experience at BBC Newcastle, presenter Frank Wappat lost his voice and asked him to present part of his afternoon show. Home Truths
''Home Truths'' was a weekly BBC Radio 4 programme which began on 11 April 1998 and was usually hosted by the DJ John Peel until his death in October 2004. In the Saturday 910am slot, it gradually became one of Radio 4's most successful programmes. Home Truths was a talk show in which the host would interview ordinary people with an extraordinary story to tell. There was also considerable correspondence with its listeners. ''Home Truths'' was based on a previous show called ''Offspring'' (which aired from 1995 to 1997), also hosted by Peel. Laurie Taylor (sociologist)
Laurence John Taylor (born 1 August 1936) is an English sociologist and radio presenter, originally from Liverpool. Biography After attending Roman Catholic schools including St Mary's College, Crosby, Merseyside, then a direct grant grammar and now an independent school, Taylor trained as an actor at Rose Bruford College, Sidcup, associated with Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop in Stratford, London. He was also a teacher at the Forest Hill comprehensive school for boys. After earning degrees in sociology and psychology, as a mature student, at Birkbeck College and the University of Leicester, he joined the department of sociology at the University of York, becoming a professor at that institution.
