Ian Murphy (soccer)
Ian Murphy (born January 16, 2000) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati. Career Youth Murphy played club soccer as part of the FC Golden State academy, helping the team to the finals of the Dallas Cup in 2014–15, and a first-place finish in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference in 2016–17. College In 2018, Murphy attended Duke University to play college soccer. During his time at Duke, Murphy made 69 appearances for the Blue Devils, scoring three goals and tallying seven assists. He was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll on three consecutive occasions, was Duke's Defender of the Year in 2021, and was Third Team All-South Region in his senior season. Football Club Cincinnati, commonly known as FC Cincinnati, is an American professional association football, soccer club based in Cincinnati. Leagues Cup
The Leagues Cup is an annual association football competition between clubs from Major League Soccer and Liga MX in North America. It debuted in July 2019 with four teams participating from each league. The first edition was a single-elimination tournament hosted in the United States with a final played in Las Vegas on September 18, 2019. Beginning in 2023, the tournament will be expanded to include all clubs from MLS and Liga MX, and will function as the regional cup for the North American zone within CONCACAF, with the top three teams qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League. 2023 Major League Soccer Season
The 2023 Major League Soccer season is the 28th season of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. The league will have 29 clubs following the addition of St. Louis City SC as an expansion team in the Western Conference, with Nashville SC moving back to the Eastern Conference. The regular season began on February 25, 2023, and ends on October 21; it will then be followed by the playoffs. The regular schedule was released on December 20, 2022. Preseason for the 2023 season started in January 2023 and ran into February, and the season began on February 25. The regular season will be paused from July 21 to August 19 for the month-long Leagues Cup, during which time MLS teams will play Liga MX opponents. The Supporters' Shield is an annual award given to the Major League Soccer team with the best regular season record, as determined by the MLS points system. The Supporters' Shield has been annually awarded at the MLS Supporters' Summit since 1999 (with the winners between 1996 and 1998 awarded retroactively), and has been recognized as a major trophy by the league. It echoes the practice of the top European leagues in which the team with the best record is the champion.
