Ian Montgomery
Ian Montgomery (born 3 May 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. Montgomery, in 1965, broke into the Collingwood side for the first time in round six and played every game for the rest of the year, including two finals. He made 17 appearances the following season and played from the back pocket in the 1966 VFL Grand Final, which Collingwood lost by a point. After two more seasons at Collingwood, Montgomery embarked on a coaching career and was the first ever coach of Rythdale-Officer-Cardinia. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. In the sport of Australian rules football, each of the eighteen players in a team is assigned to a particular named position on the field of play. These positions describe both the player's main role and by implication their location on the ground. As the game has evolved, tactics and team formations have changed, and the names of the positions and the duties involved have evolved too. Dandenong Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Based in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong, the Redlegs wore navy blue and red as their club colours. Club history From 1953 to 1957 the club played in the Federal Football League.
