Ian MacMillan (author)
Ian T. MacMillan (March 23, 1941 – December 18, 2008) was a Hawaii-based scholar and novelist. From 1966 to 2008 he was a professor of English at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The author of eight novels and six short story collections, MacMillan founded the literary journal ''Hawaii Review'' in 1973. Beginning in 1992, he also served as the fiction editor for '' Manoa: A Pacific Journal of International Writing''. His work was anthologized in ''The Best American Short Stories'' and ''The Best of Triquarterly''. MacMillan was a graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta and the University of Iowa. Called "the Stephen Crane of World War II" by Kurt Vonnegut, MacMillan was the recipient of a number of literary awards, including the Hawaii Award for Literature in 1992, the O. The State University of New York College at Oneonta, also known as SUNY Oneonta, is a public college in Oneonta, New York. It is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. History SUNY Oneonta was established in 1889 as the Oneonta Normal School, as part of founding normal schools across the state to train teachers and expand public education. It was located in a building nicknamed "Old Main" at the top of Maple Street in the city of Oneonta. The school's first principal was James M. Milne, for whom the college's current library is named. For nearly 40 years, Old Main was the only building on campus, until 1933 when Bugbee School was built. Named after Percy I. Bugbee, the second principal of the Oneonta Normal School, Bugbee School provided an on-campus training facility for the student teachers attending the normal school. PEN Center USA was a branch of PEN, an international literary and human rights organization. It was one of two PEN International Centers in the United States, the other being the PEN America in New York City.
