Ian Livingston, Baron Livingston Of Parkhead
Ian Paul Livingston, Baron Livingston of Parkhead (born 28 July 1964), is a Scottish businessman who was formerly chief executive of BT Group. A Conservative member of the House of Lords, he previously served as the UK government's Minister of State for Trade and Investment. He was created a life peer on 15 July 2013 taking the title Baron Livingston of Parkhead. Early and personal life The fourth generation son of Polish-Lithuanian Jews who arrived in Scotland 120 years ago, Livingston's family owned a factory making flying jackets and police uniforms. Brought up in Kelvinside, his father was a general practitioner who practised medicine in Parkhead. Livingston was educated at Hillhead Primary School before attending the independent Kelvinside Academy. He married his university contemporary, Deborah, in 1989. Life Peer
In the United Kingdom, life peers are appointed members of the peerage whose titles cannot be inherited, in contrast to hereditary peers. In modern times, life peerages, always created at the rank of baron, are created under the Life Peerages Act 1958 and entitle the holders to seats in the House of Lords, presuming they meet qualifications such as age and citizenship. Harold Stanley Kalms, Baron Kalms (born 21 November 1931) is the life president and former chairman of Currys plc (formerly DSG International plc, Dixons Group, Dixons Carphone). Currys plc owns Currys, as well as the now phased-out brands "PC World", "Team Knowhow" (in-house services) and various international electronics retailers. Dixons Retail merged with Carphone Warehouse in October 2014 to become Dixons Carphone (later Currys plc). Kelvinside Academy is an independent day school in Glasgow, Scotland, founded in 1878. It has a capacity of over 600 pupils and spans two years of Nursery, six years of Junior School (primary school), a transition year of Senior Preparatory, and six years of Senior School (secondary school), comprising fifteen years in all. Parkhead
Parkhead ( sco, Pairkheid) is a district in the East End of Glasgow. Its name comes from a small weaving hamlet at the meeting place of the Great Eastern Road (now the Gallowgate and Tollcross Road) and Westmuir Street. Glasgow's Eastern Necropolis cemetery was laid out in the area in 1847 beside the Gallowgate. History The area flourished with the discovery of coal in 1837 and grew into an industrial centre. In 1897 William Beardmore and Company became famous with the production of high grade steel and castings at the local ''Parkhead Forge'', founded about 1837 and extended between 1884 and 1914. Kelvinside is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde and is bounded by Broomhill, Dowanhill and Hyndland to the south with Kelvindale and the River Kelvin to the north. It is an affluent area of Glasgow, with large Victorian villas and terraces. As with Morningside, Edinburgh, residents are sometimes said to have a " pan loaf" accent, i.e. an affected one.
