Ian Gregson (athlete)
Ian Gregson (born September 2, 1962) is an actor, musician, activist and author in British Columbia, Canada. He was born in St Helens, Merseyside, St Helens, Lancashire, England. As a young boy his promising athletic career in track and field seemed to end on May 18, 1978. During his lunch hour at Ashton-in-Makerfield Grammar School (now The Byrchall High School), Gregson was involved in a railway accident that resulted in the loss of his right leg above the knee. Undaunted by this physical setback, he continued his involvement in track and field by taking up shot put and weight training. In September 1981, he emigrated to Canada with his family. Paralympian Gregson first gained national media attention in the fall of 1982 after completing the first ever Terry Fox Run in Port Coquitlam. St Helens () is a town in Merseyside, England, with a population of 102,629. 2001 British Columbia Election
The 2001 British Columbia general election was the 37th provincial election in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The election was called on April 18, 2001 and held on May 16, 2001. Voter turnout was 55.4 per cent of all eligible voters. The Wigan Casino was a nightclub in Wigan, England. Operating between 1973 and 1981, it became known as a primary venue for Northern soul music. It carried forward the legacy created by clubs such as the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, the Chateau Impney (Droitwich), the Catacombs (Wolverhampton) and the Golden Torch ( Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent). It remains one of the most famous clubs in Northern England. In 1978, allegedly the American music magazine ''Billboard'' voted Wigan Casino "The Best Disco in the World", ahead of New York City's Studio 54. Wigan ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, on the River Douglas, Lancashire, River Douglas. The Carnival Band (Canadian Band)
The Carnival Band is a marching band and community orchestra based in the Commercial Drive area of East Vancouver, Canada. It is a part of the Activist Street Band movement, which is best known in the United States through the HONK! festivals. The band has a floating membership of around 100 members playing sax, brass, percussion and stringed instruments. It has appeared as a mobile unit for parades and as an amplified band with bass, fiddle, guitar and banjo. De-growth
Degrowth (french: décroissance) is a term used for both a political, economic, and social movement as well as a set of theories that critique the paradigm of economic growth. It can be described as an extensive framework that is based on critiques of the growth-centered economic system in which we are living. Degrowth is based on ideas from a diverse range of lines of thought such as political ecology, ecological economics, feminist political ecology, and environmental justice, pointing out the social and ecological harm caused by the pursuit of infinite growth and Western "development" imperatives. 2011 Vancouver Municipal Election
The City of Vancouver held a municipal election on November 19, 2011, along with other municipalities and regional districts in British Columbia. All local government elections were for a three-year period. The ballot elected one mayor, 10 councillors, nine school board trustees and seven park board commissioners. A $180 million capital borrowing plan was also put to a vote. Incumbent mayor Gregor Robertson and the Vision Vancouver Party sought and won their second term in office following their victory in the 2008 election. All Vision Vancouver candidates won seats in their respective categories. Suzanne Anton lost her bid as mayor but the NPA team gained seats in council, park board and school board. Work Less Party
The Work Less Party (WLP) was a Canadian federal political party that became eligible for registration with Elections Canada on October 1, 2007. The federal Work Less Party was voluntarily de-registered on July 31, 2010, after applying for and being granted an extension to the June 30, 2010 deadline for filing a 2009 financial return to Elections Canada. The federal Work Less Party is no longer able to issue tax receipts for political contributions.
