Ian Evans (historian)
Ian Joseph Evans Order of Australia, OAM (born Parkes, New South Wales, Parkes, New South Wales, 1940) is an Australian author, publisher and historian. Evans discovered the use of deliberately concealed objects to protect Australian houses and other buildings from evil spiritual forces in the period 1788-1935. The author of books on the history and conservation of old Australian houses, Evans contributed to the growth of the heritage movement that spread throughout Australia in the 1980s. His first book, ''Restoring Old Houses'' (Macmillan Publishers, MacMillan, 1979) is credited with having stimulated the movement. Other books followed, including several published by Evans's family publishing house, The Flannel Flower Press Pty Ltd. Life and career Evans has encouraged the conservation of Australia's architectural heritage. Since 1979, he has produced a substantial body of work on this subject. Ian Evans (footballer)
Ian Evans (born 30 January 1952) is a Welsh former professional footballer and Wales international. Career His first club was Queens Park Rangers and in September 1974 joined Crystal Palace, where he quickly became a firm favourite with the club's supporters. In October 1977 he sustained an injury in a tackle by George Best, playing for Fulham, which kept him out for over two years. In his time at Palace he played 163 games, scoring 16 goals and was capped 13 times for Wales. Other clubs included Barnsley, Exeter City and Cambridge United in a defensive role. After a 5-year spell as assistant manager to Steve Coppell at Crystal Palace he became manager of Swansea City from March 1989 to March 1990. Evans went on to be assistant coach to Mick McCarthy with the Republic of Ireland and helped McCarthy get the team to the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and Korea. Ian James Evans (born 30 March 1982) is an English cricketer. Evans is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off break. He was born in Oxford, Oxfordshire. Evans made his debut for Oxfordshire in the 2001 Minor Counties Championship against Wales Minor Counties. Evans played Minor counties cricket for Oxfordshire from 2001 to 2004, which included 11 Minor Counties Championship matches. He made his List A debut against Huntingdonshire in the 2001 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. He played 2 further List A matches, against the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board in the 1st round of the 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was held in 2001 and against Shropshire in the 2nd round which was also played in 2001. Ian Evans (rugby Union)
Ian Evans (born 4 October 1984) is a former Wales international rugby union player. Since 2017, Evans has been on the coaching staff of the Newport Gwent Dragons. Evans was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was brought up in Aberdare, and began playing his rugby at Abercwmboi RFC and then moved to Pontypridd RFC once he was eligible for senior rugby. He quickly made his mark upon Wales' Age-Grade selectors with a succession of athletic and promising performances for the Valleys' team. Joining up with Swansea RFC in 2004, he progressed through the internal system to play for the Ospreys in the Celtic League and Heineken Cup, and has played for the national team. His usual position is at lock. He was the tallest member of the national team at 2.03 meters, but has since been demoted to 2nd tallest with the inclusion of Luke Charteris. Iain Frederick Evans (born 18 April 1959) is a former Australian politician. He was leader of the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia from 2006 to 2007. Early life Evans attended Heathfield Primary and subsequently Heathfield High School. He later gained a bachelor's degree for Building Technology from the SA Institute of Technology (now part of the University of South Australia). Prior to entering politics he managed a family-owned building and retailing business. Parliament He was elected in the 1993 election landslide for the safe conservative seat of Davenport (following the retirement of his father, Stan Evans).
