Ian Chubb
Ian William Chubb (born 17 October 1943) is an Australian neuroscientist and academic, who was the Chief Scientist of Australia from 23 May 2011 to 22 January 2016. Career Chubb has a Masters in Science, a DPhil from the University of Oxford, honorary doctorates from Flinders University, Charles Darwin University, Australian National University, Monash University, Sunshine Coast University and Melbourne University. He was Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Wollongong (1986–1990), Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Monash University (1993–1995) and Vice Chancellor of Flinders University (1995–2000). In 1999 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia "for service to the development of Higher Education policy & its implementation at state, national & international levels, as an administrator in the Tertiary Education sector, & to research, particularly in the field of neuroscience". List Of Companions Of The Order Of Australia
The Order of Australia is the only Australian order of chivalry. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement, meritorious service, or for both. At that time, Companion of the Order of Australia was the highest of three grades of the Order (Companion, Officer, Member). On 24 May 1976, the grade of Knight or Dame of the Order was established, displacing Companion as the highest grade. On 3 June 1986, the Knight/Dame grade was abolished, and Companion was once again the highest grade. On 25 March 2014, the Knight/Dame grade was re-established, Companion once again being relegated to the second highest grade of the Order. Ian Young (academic)
Ian Robert Young, AO (born 17 January 1957) is an Australian academic. He is the Kernot Professor of Engineering at the University of Melbourne. He previously held the senior administrative roles of Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology (2003–2011) and Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University (2011–2016). Young's field of research is Marine engineering, Ocean Engineering and particularly the role of Wind wave, wind-generated ocean waves. His work has focused on the development of global wave prediction models, extreme wind and wave conditions, tropical cyclone generated waves, nearshore sea states and the role of global winds and waves in climate change. He was Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2016 to 2020. Prior to his appointment, his career included Chancellor of Monash University, President of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE), and CEO and founder of Axon Instruments, and CTO for the electric car start-up Better Place Australia. The Climate Change Authority (CCA) is an Australian Government statutory agency responsible for providing independent advice to government on climate change policy. It was established by and operates under the ''Climate Change Authority Act 2011''. The Authority commenced operations on 1 July 2012. It was setup by Julia Gillard and has withstood concerted efforts for its disestablishment. The Abbott Government campaigned for the CCA's abolishment, having successfully abolished the Climate Commission.
