Ian Aitken (footballer)
Ian "Beaser" Aitken (born 16 May 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Aitken was a strongly built and pacy defender, winning the Rookie of the Year award in his debut season in 1987. He was also a premiership player that year. He moved to St Kilda for the 1993 season but only managed 5 games. He was the founder of Vic Cric in 1993, a program for young children learning skills in cricket and how to play the game. Aitken was also the founder of Vic Footy, an Australian Rules Football program similar to Vic Cricket. Strathmore Football Club
Strathmore Football Club is an Australian rules football club located 7 km north west of Melbourne in the suburb of Strathmore and was founded in 1954 as a junior club. The senior club was established in 1957. The club originally played its home games in Pascoe Vale before moving to its current home at Lebanon Reserve in Strathmore. The club won its seventh A Grade Premiership in 2011 with a win over rivals Oak Park. Strathmore came into the game underdogs after losing the semi final to Oak Park by 37 points. However, Strathmore prevailed; the final scores were Oak Park 11.13 (79) def. by Strathmore 11.15 (81). The club was awarded its ninth premiership in 2021 by the EDFL as the ladder leader when the season was curtailed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Yarra Junior Football League
The Yarra Junior Football League is the largest junior Australian rules football league in Australia. The league has a total of 32 clubs, who are based around northern, eastern and north-eastern Melbourne. There is a total of 66 divisions throughout the league. History The Yarra Junior Football League was first formed through the merging of the old Doncaster & Districts and the Hawthorn Districts Junior Football Leagues in 1997. The league began with a total of 4628 registered players. They were spread out between 180 teams and 25 foundation clubs. Since then, the number of players is over double the original number, with 10,614 players participating in 2019. It has also grown to 508 teams between 32 clubs, as per data gathered in 2019.
