Iamthemorning
iamthemorning is a Russian progressive rock/chamber pop duo formed in 2010, consisting of singer Marjana Semkina and pianist Gleb Kolyadin. Biography The duo formed at the start of the 2010. Their name was taken from the song "I Am the Morning" from Oceansize's debut release, ''Effloresce''. The band self-released their debut album, '' ~'', in April 2012. The second studio album, ''Belighted'', was released by Kscope in September 2014. Recorded and mixed in London by Marcel van Limbeek (Tori Amos), the album features drummer Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree. Their third studio album, ''Lighthouse'', features bassist Colin Edwin, also from Porcupine Tree, and vocalist Mariusz Duda from Riverside in addition to Harrison and Limbeek. The band has produced all three albums themselves. The band supported Riverside, Árstíðir, and Gazpacho on their fall 2015 tour. Marjana Semkina (musician)
Marjana Semkina (also: Mariana Semkina; Russian: Марьяна Сёмкина) is a Russian-born singer and songwriter, based in the United Kingdom since 2020. She has released music as a solo artist, and as a member and co-founder of the bands Iamthemorning and Maer. Biography Early life Marjana Semkina was born in the Baikonur Cosmodrome, where her father worked as part of the spaceport team, before moving to the Russian city of Kazan and then Moscow. In 2007 she moved to St. Petersburg, where she started the first of several music projects. Music career In 2010 Semkina met pianist and composer Gleb Kolyadin, and the pair formed the progressive rock band Iamthemorning, with Semkina as co-writer, lyricist, and lead vocalist. Semkina also acts as the band's manager and art director. It was made available to download for free by the band who believed that "music has to be available for everyone"; the band only made profit from donations. Background The album was self-produced by the band and released in April 2012. In an interview, vocalists Marjana Semkina discussed the techniques used to record the album stating "I won’t reveal the backstage stories too much… ecausea lot of people would be terrified if they knew how we recorded certain things" referring to the subpar conditions under which the album was recorded, maintaining that "at least I know that we did our best". Gleb Kolyadin (Gleb Alekseevich Kolyadin, russian: Глеб Алексеевич Колядин , born July 11, 1989, Leningrad, Russia) is a Russian pianist, composer, and arranger who mixes progressive rock and jazz fusion with neoclassical styles. He has released music both as a solo artist and as a member of the prog duo iamthemorning. Biography Gleb Kolyadin was born on July 11, 1989 in the Soviet city of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). He studied classical piano at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory under Professor Vladimir Polyakov, graduating in 2015. Since 2010, he has been the composer and pianist of the two-piece progressive rock group iamthemorning, which won Prog magazine's "Album of the Year" at the Progressive Music Awards in 2016. Gazpacho (band)
Gazpacho are an art rock band from Norway. The original core of the band consisted of Jan-Henrik Ohme (vocals), Jon-Arne Vilbo (guitar), and Thomas Andersen (keyboards, programming, production). They started making music together in 1996 and the band has since expanded with Mikael Krømer (violin, co-producer), Robert R Johansen (drums), and Kristian Torp (bass). History Early years (1996–2001) Childhood friends Jon-Arne Vilbo and Thomas Andersen had played together in a band called Delerium before, which in their own words "whittled away". After several years of separation, the two friends met again and started making music together again. Kscope
Kscope is an independent record label that is part of Snapper Music, and a sister-label of Peaceville. It is dedicated to artists in the progressive rock genre. The label has released albums by Steven Wilson and his projects Porcupine Tree (mostly re-issue only), No-Man and Blackfield. In 2008 it branched out and has since signed the post-progressive artists Anathema, Lunatic Soul and Ulver, and progressive rock stalwart Ian Anderson to their roster. In 2013, the Steven Wilson release ''The Raven That Refused to Sing (and Other Stories)'' received the Album of the Year award at the Progressive Music Awards.
