I Fought The Law (the Clash Song)
"I Fought the Law" is a song written by Sonny Curtis of the Crickets and popularized by a cover by the Bobby Fuller Four, becoming a top-ten hit for the band in 1966. Their version of the song was ranked No. 175 on the ''Rolling Stone'' list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004, and the same year was named one of the 500 "Songs that Shaped Rock" by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A version by Sam Neely charted in 1975. The song was also recorded by the Clash in 1979. A version with different lyrics was recorded by the Dead Kennedys. The Crickets
The Crickets were an American rock and roll band from Lubbock, Texas, formed by singer-songwriter Buddy Holly in January 1957. Their first hit record, "That'll Be the Day", released in May 1957, peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Top 100 chart on September 16, 1957. The sleeve of their first album, ''The "Chirping" Crickets'', shows the band line-up at the time: Holly on lead vocals and lead guitar, Niki Sullivan on rhythm guitar, Jerry Allison on drums, and Joe B. Joel Carver Whitburn (November 29, 1939 – June 14, 2022) was an American author and music historian, responsible for setting up the Record Research, Inc. series of books on record chart placings. Love's Made A Fool Of You
"Love's Made a Fool of You" is a song co-written and originally performed by Buddy Holly. It was later re-recorded by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets, with the lead vocal by Earl Sinks, and famously covered by the Bobby Fuller Four. Buddy Holly first wrote the song in 1954. It was not until 1958 that it was recorded, as an Everly Brothers demo, which was not released until 1964 on the posthumous ''Showcase'' LP. The first public release of "Love's Made a Fool of You", however, was by the Crickets, headed by Sonny Curtis in 1959. It was released as a single from ''In Style with the Crickets'', and stayed on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks, peaking at number 26. Let Her Dance
"Let Her Dance" is a song by The Bobby Fuller Four. It was the group's fourth single under Del-Fi Records, and the first to achieve national attention. "Let Her Dance" is a modified version of an earlier Bobby Fuller song, "Keep on Dancing". The modifications came as a result of producer Bob Keane, who slowed it down and added a bottle-tapping rhythm to it (inspired by Randy Fuller tapping to the song with a beer bottle). Randy Fuller was also responsible for remaking the bass line. The single was first released in June 1965 on Mustang Records, backed with "Another Sad and Lonely Night". While becoming a local hit on the Los Angeles charts, it underperformed on the national charts, missing the Top 100 at No. 133. It was re-released multiple times afterwards (including a release by Liberty Records), but it did little to change its chart status. Robert Verrill Kuhn (January 5, 1922 – November 28, 2009), professionally known as Bob Keane, and also sometimes known as Bob Keene, was an American musician, producer and the founder and owner of the record label Del-Fi Records. He was the producer and manager of Ritchie Valens and Pinoy star Josephine Roberto, aka Banig. Life and career Early years Bob Keane was born Robert Verrill Kuhn in Manhattan Beach, California, in 1922. He was a clarinet player, and his ambition was to front a big band like his idol, Benny Goodman. He did so and in 1938 (at age 16), he was setting up to play his first show at Glendale Junior College and was approached by an employee of KFWB, a Los Angeles radio station, who wanted to broadcast the concert on air to replace a canceled scheduled show.
