Doomtree
Doomtree is an American hip hop collective and record label based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The collective has seven members: Dessa, Cecil Otter, P.O.S, Sims, Mike Mictlan, Paper Tiger, and Lazerbeak. The collective is known for incorporating a wide range of musical influences into their work with lyrical complexity and wordplay, and their annual "Doomtree Blowout" events held in Minneapolis venues to showcase their group performances and the Twin Cities music scene. Early years The name "Doomtree" is a made-up word that doesn't have a meaning, according to P.O.S, who says that it has come to represent "my people and my life's work so far." When Dessa was asked about the name, she said "Initially it was a proposed name for a Cecil and P.O.S. record. The name followed us when we all lived together in a big rundown house a few years ago. Whether it was the fault of architecture or some sort of cosmic wormhole, dead pigeons always showed up on our doorstep." The group was original ...

Heiruspecs
Heiruspecs () is a live hip hop band based in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Their name is a deliberate misspelling of the word ''haruspex'', which is a Roman term for a person trained to practice divination from the inspection of entrails. The band's first releases ''Live from the Studio'', and '' Antidisestablishmetabolism'' are out-of-print, though a compilation featuring songs from them was released as '' 10 Years Strong'' in December 2007. Their self-titled album "Heiruspecs," was released on December 13, 2008. On April 22, 2014 the band released " Night Falls." In contrast to many contemporary hip hop groups that use sampling and turntables, Heiruspecs emphasize a raw, live sound celebrating their roots, and local music scene, and are more known for their live performances than records. They do shows with Minnesota-local hip hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment, and the group's style has been compared to the live hip hop band The Roots. They have a ve ...

Ipecac Neat
''Ipecac Neat'' is the first studio album by American rapper P.O.S. It was released on Doomtree Records in 2004. It was re-released on Rhymesayers Entertainment in 2005. Production P.O.S began his hip hop career as half of a rap duo called Cenospecies. After the duo broke up, they were still booked to play at several more shows. Because P.O.S was contractually obligated to perform at these shows, he had to write songs that he could perform solo. He told ''City Pages'' in 2014 that ''Ipecac Neat'' consisted of "pretty much every solo song" that he had written up to that point. Half of the album was recorded in P.O.S's own basement and the other half in a neighbor's living room, as opposed to a recording studio. Critical reception Marisa Brown of AllMusic gave the album 4 out of 5 stars, describing it as "an energetic, angry, intense record with dark, engaging Aesop Rock-like beats that incorporate guitar and strings loops, purposeful drums, and ominous scratches." She added, "The ...

Rapper's Delight
"Rapper's Delight" is a 1979 hip-hop track by the Sugarhill Gang, produced by Sylvia Robinson. Although it was shortly preceded by the Fatback Band's "King Tim III (Personality Jock)", "Rapper's Delight" is credited for introducing hip-hop music to a wide audience, reaching the top 40 in the United States, as well as the top three in the United Kingdom and number one in Canada. It was a prototype for various types of rap music. The track interpolates Chic's "Good Times", resulting in Chic's Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards suing Sugar Hill Records for copyright infringement; a settlement was reached that gave the two songwriting credits. The track was recorded in a single take. There are five mixes of the song. "Rapper's Delight" was ranked at number 251 on ''Rolling Stone'' magazine's list of the " 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2010, and number 2 on VH1's "100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs".
