I Like Mike (film)
''I Like Mike'' is a 1961 Israeli drama film directed by Canadian-born Peter Frye. It was entered into the 1961 Cannes Film Festival. It was based on Aharon Megged's play, which was performed at the Habima theatre. Plot Yafa Arieli wants to marry her daughter, Tamara to Mike, a young American and son of a Texas tycoon visiting in Israel, but Tamara is in love with Micha, a Nahal officer and a poor kibbutznik. During his flight to Israel, Mike sees a newspaper picture of a Yemenite soldier, falls in love with her, and swears to find her. Geva Films
Geva Films ( he, סרטי גבע, ''Sirtei Geva''), or the Geva film studio and laboratory was one of the first film studios in Israel. It was established in 1949 in the city of Givatayim near Tel Aviv by , Yitzhak Agadati and Yosef Navon. It produced newsreels for cinemas and short films, as well as feature films. Its building was demolished in September 2011 and two residential towers (Geva Towers ( he, מגדלי גבע)) were built in its place. Ilana Rovina ( he, אילנה רובינא; 10 February 1934 – 18 October 2020) was an Israeli singer. Biography Ilana Rovina was the daughter of Russian-born actress Hanna Rovina and Russian-born poet Alexander Penn, the child of an extramarital affair that caused a public scandal. Her parents never married, not even after the end of her father's first marriage. She was raised by foster parents in her early years. Songwriter (1929 - 2004) was her older paternal half-sister. She had two other paternal half-siblings, Adam (1931 - 1933), born to her father and his first wife Bella Don and brother to Zrubavela, and Sinilga, born to her father and his second wife Rachel Luftglass. In the Hebrew Bible, Abner ( he, אַבְנֵר ) was the cousin of King Saul and the commander-in-chief of his army. His name also appears as "Abiner son of Ner", where the longer form Abiner means "my father is Ner". Biblical narrative Abner is initially mentioned incidentally in Saul's history, first appearing as the son of Ner, Saul's uncle, and the commander of Saul's army. Geula Nuni ( he, גאולה נוני; June 9, 1942 – November 10, 2014) was an Israeli actress and singer. Biography Nuni was born in Ramat Gan in a family of three daughters to a Yemeni-Jewish father and an Austrian-Jewish mother. She made her first stage appearance at the age of 15 and she first appeared in the 1960 film '' I Like Mike''. In 1961, she served in the Nahal Troupe and after leaving, she left for Europe where she studied the works of Mary Wigman. Upon returning to Israel, Nuni worked in the Habima Theatre and appeared in the stage adaptation of '' Irma La Douce'' which boosted her popularity. Nuni's most famous film appearance was in the 1964 film ''Sallah Shabati'' starring Chaim Topol. She performed a song on the film with her on-screen partner Arik Einstein. Nuni's other films have included '' Charlie and a Half'' and '' A Thousand and One Wives''. Seymour Gitin (born 1936) is an American archaeologist specializing in ancient Israel, known for his excavations at Tel Miqne-Ekron. He was the director of the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (AIAR) in Jerusalem from 1980 to 2014. Early life and education Gitin attended the University at Buffalo, earning a Bachelor of Arts in ancient history in 1956. He then went on to the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he received a bachelor of arts in Hebrew Letters in 1959 and a master of arts in Hebrew Letters and Rabbinic Ordination in 1962.
