Comedy Film
A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement. Films in this style traditionally have a happy ending (black comedy being an exception). Comedy is one of the oldest genres in film and it is derived from the classical comedy in theatre. Some of the earliest silent films were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. When sound films became more prevalent during the 1930s, comedy films took another swing, as laughter could result from burlesque situations but also dialogue. Ljuba Welitsch
Ljuba Welitsch (''Veličkova''; bg, Люба Величкова 10 July 1913 – 1 September 1996) was an operatic soprano. She was born in Borisovo, Bulgaria, studied in Sofia and Vienna, and sang in opera houses in Austria and Germany in the late 1930s and early and mid-1940s. In 1946 she became an Austrian citizen. Welitsch became best known in the title role of Richard Strauss's Salome, in which she was coached by the composer. Her international career was short, its start delayed by the Second World War and its end hastened by vocal problems. It took off in 1947 in London and continued in New York from 1949, but her starring days were over by the mid-1950s. Her international career was just before the days when complete studio recordings of operas were common, and although some live recordings survive from broadcasts, her recorded legacy is not extensive. Karl August Leopold Böhm (28 August 1894 – 14 August 1981) was an Austrian conductor. He was best known for his performances of the music of Mozart, Wagner, and Richard Strauss. Life and career Education Karl Böhm was born in Graz. The son of a lawyer, he studied law and earned a doctorate in this subject before entering the music conservatory in his home town of Graz, Austria. He later enrolled at the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under Eusebius Mandyczewski, a friend of Johannes Brahms. Munich, Darmstadt, Hamburg In 1917, Böhm became a rehearsal assistant in his home town, making his debut as a conductor in Viktor Nessler's ''Der Trompeter von Säckingen'' in 1917. He became the assistant director of music in 1919, and the following year, the senior director. Marianne Schönauer
Marianne Schönauer (1920–1997) was an Austrian stage, television and film actress. During her career she made over fifty appearances in film and television series and also enjoyed success as a singer. She was born in Vienna as Marianne Schifferes to a Jewish father, Karl Schifferes. He fled to France following the Anchluss, but was arrested and died in Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942. Schönauer emerged as a star of Austrian cinema in the years following the Second World War in films such as G.W. Susi Nicoletti
Susi Nicoletti (3 September 1918 – 5 June 2005) was a Bavarian-born actress best remembered today for over 100 supporting roles mostly in comedy films. She was born as Susanne Emilie Luise Adele Habersack in Munich, but spent most of her childhood with her parents in Amsterdam. Back in Munich, she made her stage debut at age 13. Two years later she became a ballerina. In the early 1930s she turned to cabaret. In 1939, she was offered her first film role. In 1940 she moved to Vienna, where she became a member of the Burgtheater. After her retirement in 1992 she continued her stage career at the Theater in der Josefstadt. For decades, Nicoletti taught acting and dance at the prestigious Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. Her husband, Ernst Haeussermann, was a theatre director. Death Nicoletti died in Vienna of complications after heart surgery, aged 86. Her son, daughter and grandchildren live in the United States.
