"I Belong" is a song that served as the 's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1965. Its music was written by singer Daniel Boone (credited under his real name, Peter Lee Sterling), and its lyrics were written by Phil Peters. Kathy Kirby
Kathy Kirby (born Catherine Ethel O'Rourke; 20 October 1938 – 19 May 2011) was an English singer, reportedly the highest-paid female singer of her generation. She is best known for her cover version of Doris Day's " Secret Love" and for representing the United Kingdom in the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest where she finished in second place. Her popularity peaked in the 1960s, when she was one of the best-known and most-recognised personalities in British show business. Early life Kirby was born in Ilford, Essex, later part of Greater London, the eldest of three children of Irish parents. Kenneth McKellar (singer)
Kenneth McKellar (23 June 1927 – 9 April 2010) was a Scottish tenor. Career McKellar studied forestry at the University of Aberdeen, after graduation working for the Scottish Forestry Commission. He later trained at the Royal College of Music as an opera singer. He did not enjoy his time with the Carl Rosa Opera Company and left them to pursue a career singing traditional Scottish songs and other works. From 1959 to 1977 he frequently toured the United States and Canada with other Scottish entertainers such as Helen McArthur, often appearing in small local venues. From 1957 he starred each year in innovative pantomimes by Howard & Wyndham Ltd notably at their Alhambra Theatre Glasgow. In 1958–59 he played Jacob Bray in a successful revival of 'Old Chelsea' by Richard Tauber, along with Vanessa Lee and Peter Graves, which opened in Glasgow and then toured. "A Man Without Love" was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1966, performed in English by Kenneth McKellar (singer), Kenneth McKellar. The song is a ballad, with McKellar comparing a man without love and a man with love. He explains that a man without love is "only half a man, this nothing", and a man "with love is everything in life". The United Kingdom held a national preselection to choose the song that would go to the Eurovision Song Contest 1965. It was held on 29 January 1965 and presented by David Jacobs. The BBC internally selected the singer for the second time. They chose a solo female singer, Kathy Kirby, whose looks were compared to Marilyn Monroe and who had just scored four consecutive top 20 hit singles. The song was then selected by viewers of '' The Kathy Kirby Show'' on BBC1, casting votes on postcards via post, with the winner " I Belong", receiving 110,495 votes. Kirby released all six songs from the UK final on an Extended Play maxi single ''BBC TV's A Song for Europe'', which reached number 9 in the UK EP top 20 chart. María Concepción Bautista Fernández (born 27 October 1936), better known as Conchita Bautista (), is a Spanish singer and actress, best known for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contests of and . Bautista moved from her native Andalusia to Madrid in her teens and quickly established herself as an actress, appearing in a number of films in the 1950s. At the same time she was earning a reputation as an interpreter of Andalusian music and gained a recording contract with the Columbia label.
