IV Xample
IV Xample was an American vocal quartet who recorded successfully in the 1990s and are best remembered for the single "I'd Rather Be Alone" from their gold debut MCA Records album ''For Example''. The original members were Andre "Dre" Allen, Robert "Bobby C" Chevis (aka Athemus Chevis), his brother Raymond "Runni Rae" Chevis, and Bryant "Lucious" Woodert. The group formed in Los Angeles, and first recorded for MCA Records in 1995. Their first single, "The Swang," achieved popular local radio play in Los Angeles on 92.3 The Beat and went on to number 1 on the station's popular "4 Play at 4" segment that showcased up and coming local artists. After the song gained popularity, a bidding war between Virgin Records, Giant, and MCA Records took place with MCA coming out the best choice for the group. Jesse Powell
Jesse Powell (September 12, 1971 – September 13, 2022) was an American R&B and soul singer. Discovered by Louil Silas Jr., Powell was best known for his hit "You", which peaked at No. 2 on the R&B chart and No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Powell released four albums and was the older brother of fellow contemporary R&B singers Trina & Tamara. Powell was credited with a four-octave vocal range. He was a Grammy nominee. Will Downing
Wilfred "Will" Downing (born November 29, 1963) is an American singer and songwriter. He is married to singer Audrey Wheeler, who was a member of the R&B group Unlimited Touch. Biography Downing enrolled in Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York. Alumni of the school include record label executives Clive Davis (who founded Arista Records), Kedar Massenburg (who later became president of Motown), Stephanie Mills and singer Barbra Streisand. Downing, who eventually recorded for Motown, graduated with Massenburg in the class of 1981. Downing then attended college at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. Montell Du'Sean Barnett Jordan (born December 3, 1968) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Best known for his 1995 single "This Is How We Do It", Jordan was the primary male solo artist on Def Jam's Def Soul imprint until leaving the label in 2003.
