IVL C.24 was the first aircraft to be designed in Finland and built in an industrial environment. The aircraft was manufactured by IVL, but only in one example. The designer of the aircraft was engineer Kurt Berger Kurt Volmar Berger (1896–1977) was an aviation engineer and the chief designer at the Finland, Finnish aircraft manufacturing company Valtion Lentokonetehtaat. K. V. Berger's father, Arnold Berger, was a minister and his mother was Fanny Berger. .... The aircraft made its maiden flight on April 16, 1924, piloted by Georg Jäderholm. The aircraft was a one seated, high-wing monoplane. It was designed as a fighter, but its engine was under-powered, the speed moderate and flight characteristics poor. ''Valtion lentokonetehdas'' (State aircraft factory) was a Finnish aircraft manufacturing company that was founded on 23 February 1928 from the IVL or I.V.L. factory (Ilmailuvoimien lentokonetehdas, Finnish Air Force Aircraft Factory), founded in 1921. The company was transferred from being subordinate to the Finnish Air Force to being subordinate to the Ministry of Defence. The company, and its products were named with the prefix VL. Island factory The company began its production at Suomenlinna and Santahamina in Helsinki. The factory did not have an airport, only the sea and sea ice could be used for take-off and landing. Most of the aircraft built in Helsinki were seaplanes. In Helsinki the aircraft built were small compared to the Bristol Blenheim bombers built under licence in the late 1930s. Kurt Berger
Kurt Volmar Berger (1896–1977) was an aviation engineer and the chief designer at the Finland, Finnish aircraft manufacturing company Valtion Lentokonetehtaat. K. V. Berger's father, Arnold Berger, was a minister and his mother was Fanny Berger. He became an abiturient from ''Helsingin Uusi Yhteiskoulu'' in 1916 and began studies as an electrical engineer at the Helsinki University of Technology the same autumn, but volunteered for service with the Helsinki Jaeger Brigade. In 1918 he traveled to Liepāja, Libau in Germany, to start pilot training with floater-equipped aircraft. However, his studies were interrupted by the end of World War I and Germany's loss. Berger managed to receive his international civil pilot papers in 1921. In order to continue with his studies, he enrolled in the East London College in 1919 (nowadays called Queen Mary, University of London), graduating on 5 September 1922. A monoplane is a fixed-wing aircraft configuration with a single mainplane, in contrast to a biplane or other types of multiplane (aeronautics), multiplanes, which have multiple planes.
