ITXC Corporation (Internet Telephony Exchange Carrier) was a US-based wholesale provider of Voice over IP (VoiP), Internet-based phone calls. It was co-founded by Tom Evslin and his wife Mary in 1997 with seed money from AT&T and VocalTec (). In 2000, it had the largest Internet telephony network in the world. The company was acquired by Teleglobe Bermuda Ltd. in 2004. Technology The technology to power ITXC's voice over IP network was initially provided by Israeli company VocalTec, who also owned 20% of the company but later sold its stake. VocalTec Communications Inc. is an Israeli telecom equipment provider. The company was founded in 1985 by Alon Cohen and Lior Haramaty, who patented the first Voice over IP audio transceiver. VocalTec has supplied major customers such as Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia, and many others. Tom Evslin is the founder and was Chair of NG Advantage LLC, the first company in the United States to truck CNG to large users beyond the reach of natural gas pipelines. Evslin previously served as Chief Technology Officer for the State of Vermont. Before that he was Chief Recovery Officer responsible for coordinating the State's use of federal stimulus money under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
