The Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC, ) is a not-for-profit institution founded in 1964 and located in Épalinges, Switzerland. Since 1 January 2008, it is organized into two distinct entities: * The ISREC Foundation whose mission is to continue to seek and provide resources for the support of translational cancer research projects and the training of young scientists. * The Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC), at the School of Life Sciences of the EPFL, whose research projects are oriented towards fundamental cancer research. University Of Lausanne
The University of Lausanne (UNIL; french: links=no, Université de Lausanne) in Lausanne, Switzerland was founded in 1537 as a school of Protestant theology, before being made a university in 1890. Erich Nigg
Erich Nigg (born 28 November 1952 in Uster) is a Swiss cell biologist. Life Erich Nigg received his PhD in 1980 from the ETH Zürich (Biochemistry). Subsequently, he carried out research at the University of California in San Diego, the ETH Zürich and the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC). From 1995 he was Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Geneva before he was appointed, in 1999, to a Directorship at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany. From 2009 - 2018 was Erich Nigg Professor of Cell Biology and Director of the Biozentrum at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Douglas Hanahan
Douglas Hanahan (born 1951) is an American biologist, professor and director emeritus of the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research at EPFL (École polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) in Lausanne, Switzerland. He is currently member of the Lausanne branch of the Ludwig Institute. He received his PhD from Harvard University in 1983. In 1983, he developed Super Optimal Broth, a microbiological growth medium. He also improved the protocols used for plasmid transformation of ''Escherichia coli''. In the 1980s, he developed one of the first transgenic mouse models of cancer. With Robert Weinberg, he wrote a seminal paper ''The Hallmarks of Cancer'', published in January 2000, and which in March 2011 is the most often cited article from the peer reviewed journal ''Cell''. Joachim Lingner
Joachim Lingner (born 1962) is a Swiss molecular biologist. He holds the professorship for life sciences and leads the Lingner Lab at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Career Lingner obtained his PhD from the Biozentrum of the University of Basel in 1992. In 1993 he joined the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at University of Colorado at Boulder for postdoctoral studies under the supervision of Thomas Cech.
