Inferior Petrosal Sinus Sampling
Inferior petrosal sinus sampling (or IPSS), is a diagnostic medical procedure used to determine whether excess adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is coming from the pituitary gland (usually a pituitary adenoma causing Cushing's disease) or from a source outside the pituitary (a rare tumor causing ectopic ACTH syndrome). The procedure is usually reserved for patients with consistent ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome without a clear cut lesion on pituitary MRI. Procedure The procedure is typically performed in large medical centers by an experienced Interventional radiology, interventional radiologist, Interventional neuroradiology, neurologist or Neurosurgery, neurosurgeon and guided using fluoroscopy. Catheters are inserted through the Jugular vein, jugular or Femoral vein, femoral veins into both inferior petrosal veins which drain blood from the pituitary gland. To maximize and stabilize the pulsatile ACTH secretion, a dose of intravenous corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) is ...

International Prognostic Scoring System
The International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS), published in 1997, is used by many doctors to help assess the severity of a patient's myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Based on the IPSS score, the patient's history, and his/her personal observations, the physician will design a treatment plan to address the MDS. Process The IPSS uses three "prognostic indicators" to develop a "score" which may be useful in understanding how the MDS may progress: :* the proportion of blast cells in the bonemarrow :* the type of chromosomal changes, if any, in the marrow cells :* the presence of one or more low blood cell counts (cytopenias Cytopenia is a reduction in the number of mature blood cells. It is common in cancer patients being treated with radiation and/or chemotherapy. Types Anemia – a reduction of the red blood cells in the body. Leukopenia – a deficiency of whit ...) Each indicator is rated according to its severity and the ratings are combined into a "score." Scores ar ...

International Prostate Symptom Score
The International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) is an eight-question written screening tool used to screen for, rapidly diagnose, track the symptoms of, and suggest management of the lower urinary tract symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It contains seven questions related to symptoms related to BPH and one question related to the patient's perceived quality of life. Created in 1992 by the American Urological Association, it originally lacked the eighth quality of life question, hence its original name: the American Urological Association symptom score (AUA-7). World Health Organization International Consultation on BPH adopted the "eight question" index and labeled it the IPSS. The seven questions relating to symptoms experienced in the last month include feeling of incomplete bladder emptying, frequency of urination, intermittency of urine stream, urgency of urination, weak stream, straining and waking at night to urinate. The IPSS was designed to be self-adm ...

Infrasonic Passive Seismic Spectroscopy
Infrasonic passive seismic spectroscopy (IPSS) is a passive seismic low frequency technique used for mapping potential oil and gas hydrocarbon accumulations. It is part of the geophysical techniques also known under the generic naming passive seismic which includes also passive seismic tomography and micro seismic monitoring for petroleum, gas, and geothermal applications. In a larger scale, passive seismic includes the Global Seismic Network (GSN) earthquake monitoring. Regarding petroleum and geothermal exploration (within a small scale), the effect of fluid distribution on P-wave propagation in partially saturated rocks is responsible for the low frequency reservoir-related wavefield absorption. The high level of attenuation within the infrasonic bandwidth (below 10 Hz) of the seismic field observed in natural oil-saturated porous media during the last years (explained by mesoscopic homogeneous models) is the main responsible of the passive seismic wave field shifting w ...

International Packet Switched Service
The International Packet Switched Service (IPSS) was the first international and commercial packet switching network. It was created in 1978 by a collaboration between Britain's Post Office Telecommunications, and the United States' Western Union International and Tymnet. History This network grew from Europe and the United States to cover Canada, Hong Kong and Australia by 1981, and by the 1990s it provided a worldwide networking infrastructure.. Companies and individual users could connect in to the network, via a PSS (Packet Switch Stream) modem, or an X.25 PAD ( packet assembler/disassembler), and a dedicated PSS line, and use it to connect to a variety of online databases and mainframe systems. There was a choice of about three different speeds of PSS lines, although a faster line was more costly to rent. By 1984 British Telecom had joined the PSS to the global network and was providing IPSS services to customers. Companies including Dynatech, were providers of Interconnecti ...

Institute For Peace And Security Studies
Established in 2007, the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) of Addis Ababa University (AAU) was created as a centre for teaching, research and outreach activities. It received further stimulation when the African Peace and Security Programme (APSP), a partnership programme between IPSS and the African Union (AU), was launched in 2010. IPSS provides recognized academic education and professional training in conflict analysis, prevention, management and resolution. It also conducts academic and applied research in the area of peace and security. The IPSS is the alma mater of Ethiopian Prime Minister and Nobel Peace laureate Abiy Ahmed, who stated that he completed his PhD dissertation at IPSS in 2017. Creation The Institute for Peace and Security Studies was founded by Mulugeta Gebrehiwot in 2007. Africa Peace and Security Programme (APSP) APSP's activities and projects are aimed at enhancing African capacity (both the AU and Regional Economic Communities The Reg ...
