INS Poshak (Shalimar)
INS ''Poshak'' is a self-propelled fuel carrier barge built by M/s Shalimar Works, Kolkata for the Indian Navy. Description It is an auxiliary ship capable to carry 500 tonnes of fuel. It has seagoing capabilities and have all essential communication and navigation equipment. The vessel is classed under IRS (No: 39518) with Class notation : +SUL, for carriage of oil with flash point above 60 Degree. INS ''Poshak'' is named after a previous auxiliary vessel of same name which served the Indian Navy. It was delivered to the Indian Navy on 18 June 2012. Shalimar Works (1980) Ltd. is a public sector shipbuilding company of West Bengal, India. It owns a small shipyard on the right bank of the Hooghly River at Shibpur, Howrah. The origin of shipyard can be traced back to 1885. Current activity and future plans The shipyard is capable of manufacturing small-size ships and can also engage medium-size ship for repairing. Its major work in the past involved repairing ships for the Kolkata Port Trust and fabricating vessels for the Tourism department and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In early 2012 it had orders for 15 auxiliary and service ships worth 250 crores from Indian Navy and were planned be serviced by 2018. The ''Hooghly''-class of fuel barge is a series of service watercraft being built by Hooghly Dock & Port Engineers Ltd, Kolkata (HDPEL) for the Indian Navy. Description ''Hooghly''-class fuel barges are self-propelled auxiliary capable of replenishing LSHSD, AVCAT and other oils for ships in harbour, at anchorage and fuel depots at distant location. Each vessel in the class has a length of 67 meters with beam of 12.5 meters and depth of 4 meters. They have draught of 4 meters and have displacement of 1700 tonnes. They have a rated capacity to carry 1000 tonnes of fuel. They are able to operate up to sea state 4 and service up to sea state 6.
