Interleukin 11 receptor, alpha subunit is a subunit of the interleukin 11 receptor. IL11RA is its human gene. Interleukin 11 is a stromal cell-derived cytokine that belongs to a family of pleiotropic and redundant cytokines that use the gp130 transducing subunit in their high affinity receptors. Type I cytokine receptors are transmembrane receptors expressed on the surface of cells that recognize and respond to cytokines with four α-helical strands. These receptors are also known under the name '' hemopoietin receptors'', and share a common amino acid motif ( WSXWS) in the extracellular portion adjacent to the cell membrane. Interleukin 11 (IL-11) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''IL11'' gene. IL-11 is a cytokine and first isolated in 1990 from bone marrow-derived fibrocyte-like stromal cells.
