''I81B4U'' was an EP from Boston hardcore punk / speed metal band, Gang Green. It was released in 1988, after the previous year's debut for Roadrunner Records, ''You Got It'' and before 1989's release, '' Older... Budweiser''. The title is a reference to Van Halen's album, ''OU812'' released in the same year. I81B4U translates phonetically to "I Ate One Before You". Overview This EP shows the band's musical style as an intermediate point between hardcore punk and speed metal – also known as crossover thrash. Sing-along choruses and distinguished riffs combined with proficient guitar solos are trademarks of both of the former subgenres. A few songs featured the band's trademark melodic mutant rock and roll style; "Bartender" and "Lost Chapter" have frequently been played during live shows. Gang Green
Gang Green is an American punk rock band originally from Braintree, Massachusetts. Chris Doherty (guitar), Bill Manley (bass) and Mike Dean (drums) started the band in 1980 and broke up in 1983. Doherty reformed Gang Green the following year, and the band experienced numerous lineup changes until its dissolution for the second time in 1992. Doherty has been the band's only constant member and has kept Gang Green active from 2005 onwards. The band was influential in the formation of the East Coast hardcore punk scene, and went on to become one of the forerunners of crossover thrash and speed metal in the late 1980s. Daniel Rey
Daniel Rey (born Daniel Rabinowitz) is an American musician, record producer and songwriter from New York City, best known for his work with the punk rock band Ramones. As a teenager Rey played in punk band Shrapnel, which also featured Dave Wyndorf, later of Monster Magnet. Shrapnel put out two 45 singles (Combat Love and Go Cruisin') and a five-song self-titled e.p., and played CBGB regularly in their brief career. He first collaborated with the Ramones on their 1984 album ''Too Tough to Die'', where he co-wrote the song "Daytime Dilemma (Dangers of Love)" with Joey Ramone, and from there produced three of the band's albums, '' Halfway to Sanity'', '' Brain Drain'' and ''¡Adios Amigos!''. ''You Got It'' was the second full-length album from Boston, Massachusetts hardcore punk/speed metal band, Gang Green. It was released in 1987, a year after their previous release, ''Another Wasted Night'', in 1986. It was their first for a major record label – Roadrunner Records – after leaving independent punk label, Taang. Chris Doherty and Brian Betzger were the only surviving members from the previous album. Joe Gittleman replaced Glen Stilphen on bass, and Fritz Ericson replaced Chuck Stilphen on lead guitar after "a major dispute". The brothers had since formed a band of their own called Mallethead. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. Crossover thrash (often abbreviated to crossover) is a fusion genre of thrash metal and hardcore punk. The genre lies on a continuum between heavy metal and hardcore punk. ''OU812'' (pronounced "Oh You Ate One Too") is the eighth studio album by American rock band Van Halen. It was released in 1988 and is the band’s second album to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar. Van Halen began work on the album in September 1987 and completed it in April 1988, one month before its release. Speed metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the late 1970s from new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) roots.K.
