Charles Izon
Charles John Izon (1872 – after 1897) was an English professional association football, footballer who made 32 appearances in the Football League playing for Birmingham City F.C., Small Heath and Walsall F.C., Walsall. Izon was born in Stourbridge, Worcestershire. His forward (association football), forward play with Old Hill Wanderers F.C., Old Hill Wanderers and Halesowen Town F.C., Halesowen earned him a good reputation, and there was strong competition in the Birmingham area for his signature. He joined Football League Second Division, Second Division champions Birmingham City F.C., Small Heath in September 1893, and made his debut in the Football League on 16 September, scoring a hat-trick in a 4–0 win at home to Walsall F.C., Walsall Town Swifts. David Izonritei
David Izonritei (born 29 April 1968) is a Nigerian former boxer. Also known as David Izon, Izonritei won the Heavyweight silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. During his professional career, he defeated world title challengers Derrick Jefferson and Lou Savarese. Amateur career Izon had an amateur record that included a silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. On his way to the silver medal Izon beat the highly regarded pair of David Tua of New Zealand, and Kirk Johnson of Canada. He lost to Félix Savón of Cuba in the final. Professional career Izon began his pro career with 18 consecutive victories prior to being upset by Maurice Harris. In his next fight Izon took on David Tua, and after 11 rounds of action, Tua knocked out Izon. Izon notably defeated Lou Savarese before losing to Michael Grant, who was undefeated at the time of the fight. Dennis Izon
Dennis George Izon (1 April 1907 – 1967) was an English footballer who played for Port Vale, Hyde United and Stafford Rangers. Career Port Vale Izon played for Rugeley and Colwich before joining Port Vale as an amateur in November 1928. He signed as a professional the next month and made his debut in a 1–0 win over Tranmere Rovers at The Old Recreation Ground on 21 December 1929, taking the place of Clarence Spencer. He was used largely as a back-up player, making four appearances as the "Valiants" won the Third Division North in 1929–30. He played just once in 1930–31, as Vale recorded their highest ever league finish in the Second Division. Noel Izon
Noel Izon (nickname Sonny) was born in the Philippines. He is a documentary filmmaker and resides in Maryland with his wife Kathryn Izon and daughter Juliet Izon. He also has an older daughter, Laura Izon Powell, who is married and works as a lawyer in Sacramento, California. Noel has won many national awards for his work, which include some 100 nationally televised programs done mainly for PBS and also for National Geographic Television. Most recently, his company, ICT, coordinated the visual program for Vice-President Dick Cheney’s inaugural salute to American veterans and created For Our Tomorrows—a video tribute to veterans for the event. Ijaw People
The Izon people or Izon Otu, otherwise known as the Ijaw people due to the historic mispronunciation of the name ''Izon'', are an ethnic group majorly found in the Niger Delta in Nigeria, with significant population clusters in Bayelsa, in Delta, and in Rivers. They are also found in other Nigerian states like Ondo, and Edo State. Many are found as migrant fishermen in camps as far west as Sierra Leone and as far east as Gabon. Population figures for the Ijaws are placed at just over 4 million, accounting for 1.8% of the Nigerian population. They have long lived in locations near many sea trade routes, and they were well connected to other areas by trade as early as the 15th century. Izon Language
Izon (Ịzọn), also known as (Central–Western) Ijo, Ijaw, Izo and Uzo, is the dominant Ijaw language, spoken by a majority of the Ijaw people of Nigeria. There are about thirty dialects, all mutually intelligible, of which the are Gbanran, Ekpetiama and Kolokuma etc. Kolokuma is the language of education. In June 2013, the ''Izon Fie'' instructional book and audio CDs were launched at a ceremony attended by officials of the government of Bayelsa State. The government of Bayelsa State official employed 30 teachers to teach the Izon language in primary schools in the state in other to save the language from extinction.
