Iván Hernández González
Iván Hernández González is a Puerto Rican politician and former mayor of Vega Baja. Hernández is affiliated with the New Progressive Party (PNP) and served as mayor from 2011 to 2013. Hernández served as President of the Municipal Legislature of Vega Baja since 2006. When mayor Edgar Santana was convicted in 2011, Hernández was selected to replace him in an assembly on December 7, 2011. He was sworn in on December 20, 2011. Hernández was defeated at the 2012 general election by the candidate of the Popular Democratic Party, Marcos Cruz Molina. Vega Baja (, ) is a Vega Baja barrio-pueblo, town and Municipalities of Puerto Rico, municipality located on the coast of north central Puerto Rico. It is north of Morovis, Puerto Rico, Morovis, east of Manatí, Puerto Rico, Manatí, and west of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, Vega Alta. Vega Baja is spread over 13 barrios. Edgar Santana Rivera
Edgar Santana Rivera is a Puerto Rican politician and former mayor of Vega Baja. Santana ran for mayor of Vega Baja at the 2000 general elections, but lost to the candidate of the Popular Democratic Party, Luis Meléndez. At the 2004 elections, Santana ran again, this time defeating the PPD candidate. He was reelected at the 2008 elections. In 2010, a judge found cause for arrest against Santana for 18 charges of bribery. According to the accusations, Santana asked contractors for money in exchange of contracts in the municipality. Although maintaining his innocence, Santana resigned in February 2011, after a judge found cause for trial against him. In October, the PNP disqualified Santana for reelection at the upcoming elections on the same day that his trial began. After about two weeks of trial, Santana was found guilty of all charges and immediately arrested. In December, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison. The 2012 Puerto Rican general elections were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 to elect the officials of the Puerto Rican government that would serve for the next four years, most notably the Governor of Puerto Rico. A status referendum was held on the same date. The election was won by then-Senator Alejandro García Padilla (from the Popular Democratic Party), who defeated incumbent Governor Luis Fortuño (from the New Progressive Party) in a close election.
