Ivory Tower (Van Morrison Song)
"Ivory Tower" is a song written by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison and included on his 1986 album, ''No Guru, No Method, No Teacher''. The song was also released as a single with the B-side "A New Kind of Man", from his previous album ''A Sense of Wonder''. It charted at No. 21 on the US Mainstream Rock Tracks in 1986. Clinton Heylin writes this about the song "A chorus about how tough 'It really must be/ To be me, to see like me, to feel like me' threatens the spirituality self-effacing mood he had previously maintained." Van Morrison
Sir George Ivan Morrison (born 31 August 1945), known professionally as Van Morrison, is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose recording career spans seven decades. He has won two Grammy Awards. As a teenager in the late 1950s, he played a variety of instruments such as guitar, harmonica, keyboards and saxophone for several Irish showbands, covering the popular hits of that time. Known as "Van the Man" to his fans, Morrison rose to prominence in the mid 1960s as the lead singer of the Northern Irish R&B and rock band Them. With Them, he recorded the garage band classic " Gloria". Under the pop-oriented guidance of Bert Berns, Morrison's solo career began in 1967 with the release of the hit single "Brown Eyed Girl". David Hayes is an American bassist, guitarist, producer, singer and songwriter. Biography Hayes has worked with Van Morrison, Jesse Colin Young, The Rowans, Terry & The Pirates, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Country Joe McDonald and others. Hayes first played on a Van Morrison album in 1973 with the release of '' Hard Nose the Highway'' and was a member of Morrison's acclaimed band, The Caledonia Soul Orchestra playing on the live album, ''It's Too Late to Stop Now''. Babatunde Lea ( ) is an American percussionist who plays Afro-Cuban jazz and worldbeat. He took his name from Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji. Biography Michael Lea was raised in Englewood, New Jersey, while regularly commuting to 116th and Amsterdam in New York, where the rest of his family lived after moving from his birthplace, Danville, Virginia. His aunt was one of the first women to play in a marching band. He began drumming at the age of 11, when he, without drumming experience helped a drumline get a rhythm right. John Platania is a session musician, guitar player, and record producer. He was born in 1948 in New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley, in Ulster County, near Woodstock. Career Van Morrison Platania is best known for his work with Van Morrison, beginning on ''Moondance'', and most recently on 2016's '' Keep Me Singing''. In 1973 he toured with Morrison as a member of his band at the time The Caledonia Soul Orchestra. Chris Michie
Chris Michie (January 12, 1948 – March 27, 2003) was an American guitarist and composer and best known for his work with Van Morrison. Chris Michie was born in Ithaca, New York in 1948 and moved to Madison, Wisconsin, when he was a teenager. He attended the University of Wisconsin. Michie played in a band named The Grapes of Wrath, while still a teenager. In 1969, he moved to California as a member of the Madison band, The Mendelbaum Blues Band. Keith Knudsen, a future Doobie Brothers drummer was also a member of the band. Michie quit the band in 1971 and joined the rock band, Lamb. David Rubinson, the band's producer, picked Michie to be guitarist with the Pointer Sisters. Jef Labes is an American keyboardist and musician. He is best known from his work with Van Morrison and Bonnie Raitt. Jef Labes has also arranged for string and woodwind instruments on numerous albums. Career Labes started his recording career with the Boston-based Apple Pie Motherhood Band, playing piano and organ on the albums ''Apple Pie & Motherhood'' (1968), composing four of the tracks himself and ''Apple Pie'' (1969), this time composing one track. The band split up later in 1969 and would not make another album. In the same year Labes moved to Woodstock to join Van Morrison as a live musician.
