The Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (french: Rassemblement des houphouëtistes pour la démocratie et la paix, RHDP) is a political party in Ivory Coast. History The RHDP was established as a political alliance on 18 May 2005, seeking to reclaim the political ideology of the country's founding president, Félix Houphouët-Boigny. It initially included the Rally of the Republicans, the Democratic Party of Côte d'Ivoire, the Union for Democracy and Peace in Côte d'Ivoire, the Movement of the Forces of the Future and the Union for Ivory Coast. Despite the formation of the alliance, each party put forward its own candidate in the 2010 presidential elections. Independent Politician
An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Some independent politicians may be associated with a party, perhaps as former members of it, or else have views that align with it, but choose not to stand in its name, or are unable to do so because the party in question has selected another candidate. Others may belong to or support a political party at the national level but believe they should not formally represent it (and thus be subject to its policies) at another level. In running for public office, independents sometimes choose to form a party or alliance with other independents, and may formally register their party or alliance. Even where the word "independent" is used, s ...

Elections In Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast, also known as Côte d'Ivoire, elects on national level a head of state – the president – and a legislature. The president is elected for a five-year term by the people. The National Assembly (''Assemblée Nationale'') has 225 members, elected for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies. Côte d'Ivoire is a one party dominant state with the RHDP in power. Opposition parties are allowed, but are widely considered to have no real chance of gaining power. Following a peace deal between the government and former rebels in March 2007, the next elections were planned for early 2008. These elections however, were postponed to November 2009 first, and then to early 2010.
