Ivor Evans (footballer, Born 1966)
Ivor Evans (born 23 January 1966) is a Fijian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Ivor Evans started his career in his hometown team Labasa F.C., and then he played for Fiji giants Ba F.C. In 1987, he arrived in North America. Primarily he got a brief spell with MISL team St. Louis Steamers, but he didn't play any match. Next he was selected by Vancouver 86ers in an open trial. He has been playing during his career for Vancouver 86ers, in Canadian Soccer League, in American Professional Soccer League and in the A-League from 1987 to 1997. He played 221 matches and scored 47 goal for Vancouver 86ers. In 1991, he had a brief spell with Fijian side Nadi F.C. From 1995/1996 season, while playing for Vancouver 86ers in A-League, Ivor Evans started to play also for Richmond Rangers FC, an Indo-Canadian team of the Vancouver Metro Soccer League, an amateur league operating in British Columbia, primarily in the Lower Mainland area. Labasa, Fiji
Labasa (pronounced ) is a town in Fiji with a population of 27,949 at the most recent census held in 2007. Labasa is located in Macuata Province, in the north-eastern part of the island of Vanua Levu, and is the largest town on the island. The town itself is located on a delta formed by three rivers – the Wailevu, the Labasa (after which the town is named), and the Qawa. The latter two are connected by an 8-kilometre canal. The township historically served the sugar cane farms and farm workers with harvesting season resulting in significant seasonal employment although the township is now less dependent on the sugar industry. The farmers market offers seasonal produce and seafood. The main street is lined with small family run businesses, supermarkets and restaurants offering a lively pedestrian thoroughfare. Vancouver Whitecaps FC (1986–2010)
Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club is a Canadian professional soccer team based in Vancouver. They compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The MLS iteration of the club was established on March 18, 2009, and began play in 2011 as the 17th team to enter Major League Soccer while replacing the USSF Division 2 team of the same name in the city, making them a phoenix club and the third to carry the Whitecaps name. The club has been owned and managed by the same group since their USSF days. In the 2012 season, the team became the first Canadian team to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The Whitecaps have won two Canadian Championships, in 2015 and 2022. The 1997 USISL A-League was an American Division II league run by the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues during the summer of 1997. Overview At the end of the 1996 A-League season, the U.S. second division A-League collapsed. Six of the seven teams in the A-League then joined the USISL which had three leagues in 1996, beginning with the third division USISL Select League. The 1995 A-League season was the sixth A-League season and first after being renamed from the American Professional Soccer League. Overview In 1995, the American Professional Soccer League, which was the de facto highest level of U.S. soccer (officially sanctioned U.S. second division) until MLS commenced, changed its name to the A-League. The league had ended its 1994 season with seven teams and intended to expand to ten for the 1995 season with new franchises in Detroit and Atlanta. These plans were stymied when the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Los Angeles Salsa and Toronto Rockets all folded. This left the league with only four teams. The addition of the New York Centaurs and Atlanta Ruckus gave the league six teams and allowed it to compete for another season. 1994 American Professional Soccer League
The 1994 season of the American Professional Soccer League (APSL) was the fifth in the history of the league, which was the top level of club soccer in the United States from 1990 to 1995. It was planned to be contested by eight teams in the U.S. and Canada and took place between July 1 and October 15, partially overlapping with the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The Tampa Bay Rowdies folded and the Toronto Blizzard were replaced by the Toronto Rockets, who were formed from the North York Rockets of the Canadian Soccer League. Two expansion teams, the Houston Force and Seattle Sounders, were also added. The Force postponed their first two matches and played against the Los Angeles Salsa before the APSL revoked their franchise on July 22, 1994.
