Iver's was a department store with two locations north of Downtown Los Angeles: one at 5801 N. Figueroa in Highland Park, Los Angeles, and another at 663 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. The La Cañada Flintridge branch, which measured and had sales of $5 million per year, was sold to Buffums in 1986. Buffums
Buffums, originally written as Buffums' with an apostrophe, was a chain of upscale department stores, headquartered in Long Beach, California. The Buffums chain began in 1904, when two brothers from Illinois, Charles A. and Edwin E. Buffum, together with other partners, bought the Schilling Bros., the largest dry goods store in Long Beach, and renamed it The Mercantile Co. The store grew to a large downtown department store, and starting in the 1950s, grew slowly over the years to be a small regional chain of 16 speciality department stores across Southern California at the time of its closure in 1990. Highland Park is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California, located in the city's Northeast Los Angeles, Northeast region. It was one of the first subdivisions of Los Angeles and is inhabited by a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic groups. After the founding of Los Angeles in 1781, the Corporal of the Guard at the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, Jose Maria Verdugo, was granted the 36,403 acre Rancho San Rafael which included present day Highland Park. Drought in the mid-19th century resulted in economic hardship for the Verdugo family, which eventually compelled them to auction off Rancho San Rafael in 1869 for $3,500 over an unpaid loan. Highland Park Station (Los Angeles Metro)
Highland Park station is an at-grade light rail station on the L Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located at the intersection of North Avenue 57 at Marmion Way (one block north of North Figueroa Street) in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, after which the station is named. The station opened on July 26, 2003, as part of the original Gold Line, then known as the "Pasadena Metro Blue Line" project. This station and all the other original and Foothill Extension stations will be part of the A Line upon completion of the Regional Connector project in 2023.
