Ivanhoe Railway Station, New South Wales
Ivanhoe railway station is located on the Broken Hill line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Ivanhoe. History Ivanhoe station opened on 19 August 1925 when the line was extended from Trida. It served as the terminus of the line until 7 November 1927 when it was extended to join with the line from Broken Hill. The main town is located approximately three kilometres north of the station and from the original opening of the line a separate railway town was constructed adjacent the station to service the railways needs. Workshops, worker houses, locomotive depots, track maintenance depot, crew barracks, fuelling point and the station were all built. The railway town has now largely been taken over by the Ivanhoe Gaol. Services Ivanhoe is served by NSW TrainLink's weekly ''Outback Xplorer'' between Sydney and Broken Hill. Ivanhoe, New South Wales
Ivanhoe is a very small township on the Cobb Highway between the Lachlan and Darling rivers in New South Wales, Australia. It is located within the Central Darling Shire local government area. Ivanhoe functions as a service centre for the surrounding area. The township is characterised by a particularly wide main street. At the 2016 census, Ivanhoe had a population of 196 people. The town was founded in the early 1870s, and was named after Sir Walter Scott's work of historical fiction, Ivanhoe. The township was situated on well-used coach and stock routes connecting Wilcannia on the Darling River with Balranald on the Murrumbidgee and Booligal on the Lachlan. Broken Hill Railway Line
The Broken Hill railway line is now part of the transcontinental railway from Sydney to Perth. New South Wales's first line opened from Sydney to Parramatta Junction (near Granville Station) in 1855 and was extended as the Main Western line in stages to Orange in 1877. The Broken Hill line branched off the Main Western line at Orange and was opened to Molong in 1885. It was extended to Parkes and Forbes in 1893. This line was extended from Parkes to Bogan Gate and Condobolin in 1898 and Roto and Trida in 1919. An isolated section of line was also opened from Menindee to the town of Broken Hill in 1919, which met the gauge Silverton Tramway at a break-of-gauge. At Cockburn, the Silverton Tramway connected with the South Australian Railways system to Port Pirie and via a break of gauge at Terowie to Adelaide. Trida, New South Wales
Trida is a locality in Central Darling Shire in the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia. Original inhabitants Tride lay within the territory of the Wangaibon. Village Records show that a Hotel existed at Trida with the licence being established in 1889 by an Alexander Pearce. The Hotel known simply as the Trida Hotel. The remains of a small one room school were visible until recent times and a post office with telephone switchboard also once operated adjacent to the railway platform. Railway Trida was the terminus of the Broken Hill line between 10 February 1919 and 19 August 1925, from 1925 the line was completed between Sydney and Broken Hill. The station platform at Trida was opened on 10 February 1919 and is now closed (date of closure unknown). A railway town, or railroad town, is a settlement that originated or was greatly developed because of a railway station or junction at its site. Ivanhoe (Warakirri) Correctional Centre
The Ivanhoe (Warakirri) Correctional Centre, an Australian minimum security prison for males, is located in Ivanhoe, New South Wales. The centre is operated by Corrective Services NSW an agency of the Department of Attorney General and Justice of the Government of New South Wales. The centre detains sentenced and unsentenced felons under New South Wales and/or Commonwealth legislation. The majority of inmates are Aboriginal. The centre detains up to 55 prisoners who perform cleaning and maintenance tasks, as well as participating in community projects and the mobile outreach program. The Outback Xplorer is an Australian passenger train service operated by NSW TrainLink between Sydney and Broken Hill via the Main Western line. Commencing in March 1996, it was initially a locomotive-pulled service. It ceased in 2000 due to the poor state of the passenger carriages, but resumed in 2002 using Xplorer sets.
