The Italy women's national rugby union sevens team is a Rugby sevens national women's side that represents Italy. They have only qualified once to the Rugby World Cup Sevens. At the 2021 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Championship Series held in Lisbon and Moscow, Spain finished third overall. 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens – Women's Tournament
The inaugural women's tournament in the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held at The Sevens in Dubai alongside the men's tournament. The tournament was held from 6 March to 7 March, with Australia beating New Zealand 15−10 at the final. Sara Barattin
Sara Barattin (born 11 September 1986 in Treviso) is an Italian rugby union player who plays as Scrum-Half (rugby union), scrum-half for ASD Villorba Rugby and the Italy women's national rugby union team, where she was the Captain (sports), captain from 2016 to 2018. During the 2019 Women's Six Nations Championship, 2019 Six Nations championship Barattin became Italy's most capped player (89) overtaking Michela Tondinelli, retired at 87. Sporting career Barattin was born on 11 September 1986. Barattin began playing for the Italy women's national rugby union team at the age of 18. Prior to the start of the 2016 season, she was made the team's Captain (sports), captain. 2017 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Championships
The 2017 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series was the top level of international women's rugby sevens competitions organised by Rugby Europe during 2017. The series featured two tournaments, one hosted in Malemort and one hosted in Kazan. Russia won both tournaments and finished as overall champions. Ireland finished third in both tournaments and finished as the series runners–up. The series also served as a 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens qualifier and Ireland qualified for the World Cup based on their performances in the series. Sweden and the Netherlands were relegated to the 2018 Trophy series. The 2016 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series was the top level of international women's rugby sevens competitions organised by Rugby Europe during 2016. The series featured two tournaments, one hosted in Kazan and one hosted in Malemort. In preparation for 2016 Summer Olympics, England and Wales were replaced by two Great Britain representative teams, the Lions and the Royals. France won the Kazan tournament while Russia won the Malemort tournament. Russia won the overall championship. Finland and Ukraine were relegated to the 2017 Trophy series. France won the championship and qualified for the women's rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
