Italy Women's National Ice Hockey Team
The Italian women's national ice hockey team, a.k.a. ''Blue Ladies'', represents Italy at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World Women's Championships. The women's national team is controlled by the Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio (FISG). Italy has about 490 female players in 2011. Italian Ice Sports Federation
The Italian Ice Sports Federation ( it, Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio; FISG), is the governing body for ice sports in Italy. It was founded in September 1926 to promote the practice of winter sports on ice and to coordinate events. The FISG is a member of a number of international sports organizations including the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and the International Skating Union (ISU). The headquarter is in Milan. History The first Italian Ice Sports Federation was established in September 1926 in Milan by the fusion of three pre-existing federations, those for bobsledding, ice skating and ice hockey. In 1933 the FISG combined with the Italian skiing federation to create the Federazione Italiana Sport Invernali (FISI) (Italian Federation for Winter Sports ), with its operations transferred to Rome. 2005 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships
The 2005 IIHF World Women's Championships was held April 2–9, 2005, in Linköping, at Cloetta Center (now called the Saab Arena), and Norrköping, at Himmelstalundshallen, in Sweden. USA won their first gold medal at the World Championships, defeating the defending champions Canada in a penalty shootout. Sweden won their first medal at the World Women Championships, defeating Finland 5–2 in the bronze medal game. The championship was expanded to nine teams for 2006, so there was no relegation at any level. The 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I was scheduled to be two international ice hockey tournaments organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division I Group A tournament would have been played in Angers, France, from 12 to 18 April 2020, and the Division I Group B tournament in Reykjavík, Iceland, from 28 March to 3 April 2020. On 2 March 2020, the Division I Group B tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Five days later, the Division I Group A tournament was cancelled as well. The 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I was two international ice hockey tournaments organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division I Group A tournament was played in Budapest, Hungary, from 7 to 13 April 2019, and the Division I Group B tournament was played in Beijing, China, from 6 to 12 April 2019. Hungary and Denmark earned promotion to the Top Division in Division I Group A, while the Netherlands gained promotion after their Division I Group B victory. The 2018 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I was two international ice hockey tournaments organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division I Group A tournament was played in Vaujany, France, and the Division I Group B tournament was played in Asiago, Italy, both from 8 to 14 April 2018. 2014 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II
The 2014 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II was an ice hockey competition consisting of three tournaments. The Division II Group A tournament was played in Asiago, Italy, from 6 to 12 April 2014. The Division II Group B was played from 24 to 30 March 2014 in Reykjavík, Iceland. The qualification tournament was held in Mexico City, Mexico, from 19 to 22 March 2014. The winners of Division II Group A were promoted to the Division I Group B for the 2015 championship, while the last-placed team was relegated to the Division II Group B. The Group B winners moved up to Group A, while the last placed team was relegated to the 2015 Division II Group B Qualification. The winners of the qualification were promoted to the Division II Group B for the next year's championship. The Division II Group A tournament was played in Auckland, New Zealand, from 8 to 14 April 2013. The Division II Group B tournament was played in Puigcerdà, Spain, from 1 to 7 April 2013. The winners of the Division II Group A were promoted to the Division I Group B for the 2014 championships, while the last-placed team were relegated to the Division II Group B. 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I
The Division I Group A tournament was held in Ventspils, Latvia, from March 25 to 31. The winner, the Czech Republic, was promoted to the top division for 2013, while the bottom-ranked team, Kazakhstan, was relegated to Group B for 2013. Group B was contested from April 9 to 15 at Hull, Great Britain. The winner, Denmark, moves up to Group A for 2013, while the last placed team Italy is relegated to Division II Group A. Denmark won the three way tie-breaker with France and China by virtue of having a superior goal differential in the games those three nations played against each other (Denmark +3, China +1, France −4). Relegation was decided in similar fashion, by breaking a three way tie between Great Britain (+4), the Netherlands (−1), and Italy (−3). 2011 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships – Division II
The following teams took part in the Division II tournament which was held in Caen, France. The winner of the group was promoted to Division I (renamed IA) for the 2012 championships, while the last-placed team in the group was relegated to Division III (renamed IIA). Prior to the start of the tournament the North Korean national team announced they would withdraw, citing financial reasons. All games against them are to be counted as a forfeit, with a score of 5–0 for the opposing team.
