"It's Saturday" is a song by American rock band Marcy Playground, released as the first single from the band's second studio album, ''Shapeshifter'' (1999). It was originally titled "Teenage Hypochondriac" but was changed before the release date of the album. Although nowhere near as successful as the band's earlier smash hit "Sex and Candy," "It's Saturday" managed to hit number 25 on the US Modern Rock Charts. The lyrics of the song share common themes with the poe"Sick"by Shel Silverstein. The band is best known for their 1997 hit " Sex and Candy". History Early years The band is named after the Marcy Open School in Minneapolis, which is the alternative school John Wozniak attended. He chose the name because many of his songs were inspired by his childhood. Marcy Playground emerged in the late 1990s. Influences include David Bowie, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Wham! and the Beatles. ''Shapeshifter'' is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Marcy Playground, released on November 2, 1999, by Capitol Records. The album's first single was " It's Saturday", which peaked at No. 25 on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. The band promoted the album by touring with Blinker the Star. Production Produced by frontman John Wozniak, ''Shapeshifter'' was recorded at Sabella Studios in Roslyn Heights, New York, and mixed at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver; Wozniak ended up buying and renovating the latter venue. The majority of the songs had been in the band's live set for years. The album cover artwork is by Mark Ryden. Post-grunge
Post-grunge is an offshoot of grunge that has a less abrasive or intense tone than traditional grunge. "Sex and Candy" is a song by American alternative rock group Marcy Playground, a single from their 1997 self-titled debut album. It is a post-grunge song with psychedelic elements. Lead singer John Wozniak was inspired to write the song after a woman told him that a room smelled like "sex and candy." The song's abstract lyrics refer to the disco era and include hippie lingo. In 1997, Wozniak said that "Sex and Candy" is an unorthodox love song; later, he said he does not know what the song means. It was released to radio on the week of September 15, 1997. Sheldon Allan Silverstein (; September 25, 1930 – May 10, 1999) was an American writer, cartoonist, songwriter, and musician. Born and raised in Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, Silverstein briefly attended university before being drafted into the United States Army. During his rise to prominence in the 1950s, his illustrations were published in various newspapers and magazines, including the adult-oriented ''Playboy''. He also wrote a satirical, adult-oriented alphabet book, ''Uncle Shelby's ABZ Book''. Pope John Paul II (born Karol Józef Wojtyła; 18 May 19202 April 2005) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 16 October 1978 until Death and funeral of Pope John Paul II, his death in 2005. Peter Christopherson
Peter Martin Christopherson (also known as Sleazy; 27 February 1955 – 25 November 2010) was an English musician, video director, commercial artist, designer and photographer, who was at one time a member of design agency Hipgnosis. He also co-founded the Industrial Records band Throbbing Gristle (TG). After the disbandment of Throbbing Gristle, he participated in the formation of Psychic TV along with Genesis P-Orridge and Geoff Rushton—Rushton later changed his name to John Balance. After his short time in Psychic TV, Christopherson formed Coil with Balance, which lasted for just under 23 years, until Balance died of a fall in the Weston-super-Mare home he shared with Christopherson.
