István Szabó
István Szabó (; born 18 February 1938) is a Hungarian film director, screenwriter, and opera director. Szabó is one of the most notable Hungary, Hungarian filmmakers and one who has been best known outside the Hungarian language, Hungarian-speaking world since the late 1960s. Working in the tradition of European Auteur theory, auteurism, he has made films that represent many of the political and psychological conflicts of Central Europe's recent history, as well as of his own personal history. He made his first short film in 1959 as a student at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest, Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest, and his first feature film in 1964. He achieved his greatest international success with ''Mephisto (1981 film), Mephisto'' (1981) for which he was awarded an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. István Szabó (born 17 January 1967) is a Hungarian football manager and a former player. He is the manager of Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC. Managerial career Kecskemét In 2021, he was appointed as the manager of Kecskeméti TE. In the 2021–22 Nemzeti Bajnokság II, Kecskemét finished second and were promoted to the first division. On 15 October 2024, he was sacked as the manager of Kecskeméti TE. After his removal from his position, the supporters of the club organized a protest. István Szabó (born 15 June 1950) is a Hungarian sprint canoeist who competed from the early 1970s to the mid-1980s. Competing in three Summer Olympics, he won two medals in the K-2 1000 m event with a silver in 1980 and a bronze in 1976.
