Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (, İBB) is the government agency in charge of the municipal affairs of the Istanbul Province. It is one of the 30 metropolitan municipalities in Turkey. History The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was established on 23 March 1984, following the enactment of the metropolitan municipality act on 8 March 1984. Initially, the municipality covered only the urban centers of Istanbul, which accounted for 35% of the Istanbul Province. The rest of the province was administered by the Istanbul Special Provincial Administration. In July 2004, the concept of metropolitan municipality was redefined in Istanbul and Kocaeli, where thenceforth metropolitan municipality borders would overlap with provincial borders. This change enabled the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to extend its jurisdiction to the whole province, and to assume the responsibilities of the provincial government. Supreme Electoral Council Of Turkey
The Supreme Election Council (; YSK) is the highest electoral authority in Turkey. It was established by the Deputies Election Law no. 5545 on 16 February 1950. 2019 Turkish Local Elections
The Turkish local elections of 2019 were held on Sunday 31 March 2019 throughout the 81 provinces of Turkey. A total of 30 metropolitan and 1,351 district municipal mayors, alongside 1,251 provincial and 20,500 municipal councillors were elected, in addition to numerous local non-partisan positions such as neighbourhood representatives ( muhtars) and elderly people's councils. The governing Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) contested the elections in many provinces under a joint People's Alliance. Likewise, the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the İYİ Party entered some of the races under the Nation Alliance banner. Ali Yerlikaya (born 11 October 1968) is a Turkish people, Turkish bureaucrat serving as the Ministry of the Interior (Turkey), minister of the interior since 4 June 2023. He previously served as the governor of Istanbul from 2018 to 2023. Following the annulment of the March 2019 Istanbul mayoral election, Yerlikaya was briefly the acting Mayor of Istanbul until a new successor was elected in a June 2019 Istanbul mayoral election, re-run in June 2019. March 2019 Istanbul Mayoral Election
The March 2019 Istanbul mayoral election took place on 31 March 2019, as part of the 2019 Turkish local elections. In addition to a mayor for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, all 39 Istanbul districts elected their own individual mayors as well as district councillors. Early results on election night showed that People's Alliance candidate Binali Yıldırım held a small lead over his Nation Alliance rival Ekrem İmamoğlu. However, as the lead narrowed and a blackout occurred over the reporting of new results, İmamoğlu overtook Yıldırım according to the Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) on noon on 1 April. Both candidates declared victory, with banners showing Yıldırım's image and the message 'thank you Istanbul' appearing in numerous places overnight.
