Isabel Mirrow Brown
Isabel Mirrow Brown (June 9, 1928 – August 2014) was an American ballerina. A fictionalized version of her life was documented in the 1977 film '' The Turning Point'', in which she was portrayed by Shirley MacLaine, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance. Personal life She was born in New York City, United States, the daughter of Jewish-Russian immigrant parents Sonia and Alexander "Sasha" Mirrow (1893–1977). She married dancer Kelly Kingman Brown (1928–1981) and had four children, dancers Leslie Browne and Elizabeth, and sons Kelly Brown II, a film producer, and Ethan Brown, who was a soloist dancer with ABT until 2004. Svetlana Beriosova
Svetlana Nikolayevna Beriosova (russian: Светла́на Никола́евна Берёзова; 24 September 1932 – 10 November 1998), also spelled Beriozova or Beryozova, was a Lithuanian-British prima ballerina who danced with The Royal Ballet for more than 20 years. Early life Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, the daughter of Nicolas Beriosoff (or Nicolas Beriozoff; 1906–1996), a Lithuanian ballet master- his pupils included Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Alicia Markova; he founded the Zurich Opera Ballet School- of ethnic Russian descent who immigrated to England. Lisa Lucas
Lisa Lucas (born 1961) is an American former child actress best known for her role as "Addie Mills" in the Emmy-winning Christmas television special, ''The House Without a Christmas Tree''. Career Lucas also played Shirley MacLaine's daughter in the 1977 film '' The Turning Point'', and Jill Clayburgh's daughter in 1978 film ''An Unmarried Woman''. Gelsey Kirkland
Gelsey Kirkland (born December 29, 1952) is an American ballerina. She received early ballet training at the School of American Ballet. Kirkland joined the New York City Ballet in 1968 at age 15, at the invitation of George Balanchine. She was promoted to soloist in 1969, and principal in 1972. She went on to create leading roles in many of the great twentieth century ballets by Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and Antony Tudor, including Balanchine's revival of '' The Firebird'', Robbins' '' Goldberg Variations'', and Tudor's ''The Leaves are Fading''. Arthur Laurents (July 14, 1917 – May 5, 2011) was an American playwright, theatre director, film producer and screenwriter. After writing scripts for radio shows after college and then training films for the U.S. Army during World War II, Laurents turned to writing for Broadway, producing a body of work that includes '' West Side Story'' (1957), '' Gypsy'' (1959), and ''Hallelujah, Baby!'' (1967), and directing some of his own shows and other Broadway productions. Nora Kaye-Ross (January 17, 1920 – February 28, 1987) was an American prima-ballerina known for her ability to perform dramatic roles. Called the ''Duse of Dance'' after the acclaimed actress Eleonora Duse, she also worked in films as a choreographer and producer and performed on Broadway. Early life Kaye was born Nora Koreff in New York City, New York, the daughter of Russian Jewish immigrant parents, Louise (1895–1973) and Gregory Joseph Koreff (1893–1976). She later changed her surname to Kaye. Her father, Gregory Koreff was an actor with the Moscow Art Theatre and worked under Konstantin Stanislavski. Finis Jhung
Finis Jhung (born May 27, 1937) is an American ballet dancer, dance company founder and dance teacher. Early life Jhung was born on May 27, 1937, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His multiracial heritage includes Korean, Scottish and English ancestors. The youngest of three sons, born to Caroline and Walter Jhung, Finis' parents ran a tailor shop on Oahu's Hickam Air Force Base. The building was damaged, but not destroyed, during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. At the end of World War II, as soldiers left the base, the Jhungs' business suffered. Finis' disconsolate father packed up and left Hawaii for the mainland. His mother filed for divorce which was granted in 1945 when Finis was nine years old.
