Iris Ser. Chinenses
''Iris'' ser. ''Chinenses'' is a series of the genus '' Iris'', in ''Iris'' subg. ''Limniris''. The series was first classified by Diels in 'Die Natürlichen Pflanzenfamilien' (Edited by H. G. A. Engler and K. Prantl) in 1930. It was further expanded by Lawrence in Gentes Herb (written in Dutch) in 1953.James Cullen, Sabina G. Knees, H. Suzanne Cubey (Editors) Most species come from East Asia with flattish (looking) flowers. The species in this series are similar in form to small forms of ''Iris'' ser. ''Sibiricae''. Species in the series generally have a ridge on the falls of the flowers, similar to a crest. They are not hardy in the UK and should be cultivated in an alpine house, with plenty of water during the growing months. Only 'Iris minutoaurea' has been cultivated in Britain. Iris Minutoaurea
''Iris minutoaurea'' is a beardless iris in the genus ''Iris'', in the subgenus '' Limniris'' and in the series '' Chinenses'' of the genus. It is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial of eastern Asia, native to China and Korea. It has been naturalized in Japan. It has long grassy-like leaves, short stem and bright yellow or pale yellow flowers. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions. Description ''Iris minutoaurea'' can sometimes be mistaken for '' Iris henryi'' (another yellow flowering Chinese iris). But they differ is sizes of pedicel (flower stalk) and perianth tube. ''Iris henryi'' has a short perianth tube and long pedicel, while with ''Iris minutoaurea'' it is the other way around. The longest running botanical magazine, it is widely referred to by the subsequent name ''Curtis's Botanical Magazine''. ''Iris'' is a flowering plant genus of 310 accepted species with showy flowers. As well as being the scientific name, ''iris'' is also widely used as a common name for all ''Iris'' species, as well as some belonging to other closely related genera. A common name for some species is 'flags', while the plants of the subgenus '' Scorpiris'' are widely known as 'junos', particularly in horticulture. It is a popular garden flower. Ludwig Diels
Dr. Friedrich Ludwig Emil Diels (24 September 1874 – 30 November 1945) was a German botanist. Diels was born in Hamburg, the son of the classical scholar Hermann Alexander Diels. From 1900 to 1902 he traveled together with Ernst Georg Pritzel through South Africa, Java, Australia and New Zealand. Shortly before the First World War he travelled New Guinea and in the 1930s in Ecuador. Especially his collections of plants from Australia and Ecuador, which contained numerous holotypes, enriched the knowledge of the concerning floras. His monography on the Droseraceae from 1906 is still a standard. The majority of his collections were stored at the botanical garden in Berlin-Dahlem, whose vicedirector he had been since 1913, becoming its director in 1921 until 1945. His collections were destroyed there during an air raid in 1943. He died in Berlin on 30 November 1945. George Hill Mathewson Lawrence (June 19, 1910 - June 10, 1978) was an American botanist, writer and professor of botany who helped establish the 'Liberty Hyde Bailey Hortorium', the Hunt Botanical Library and the ''Huntia'' journal. He was also an avid book collector, including books on the history of Rhode Island, historic books and botanical art. ''Iris henryi'' is a beardless rhizomatous iris. It is in the genus '' Iris'', subgenus '' Limniris'' and in the series ''Chinenses'' of the genus, from China. It has thin green leaves, short stem and light-blue, to creamy-white or pale yellow flowers. ''Iris koreana'', also known as dwarf woodland Korean iris, is a beardless iris in the genus '' Iris'', in the subgenus '' Limniris'' and in the series '' Chinenses'' of the genus. It is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial from Korea.
