Iraq At The Paralympics
Iraq made its Paralympic Games début at the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona. It has competed in every edition of the Summer Paralympics since then, but never in the Winter Paralympics. Thaair Hussin is an Iraqi Paralympic powerlifter. He represented Iraq at the 2004 Summer Paralympics held in Athens, Greece and he won the bronze medal in the men's 82.5 kg event. Wheelchair Fencing At The 2016 Summer Paralympics
Wheelchair fencing at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was held in Rio from 4 September to 8 September 2016. Classification Fencers are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows fencers to compete against others with a similar level of function. Fencing has two ability classes, A and B, two genders and three weapons, epee, foil and sabre. Wheelchairs were anchored to the ground during competition. Garrah Tnaiash (born 1 January 1991) is an Iraqi Paralympic athlete of short stature. He represented Iraq at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and he won the gold medal in the men's shot put F40. In 2021, he won the silver medal in the same event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Wildan Nezar Al-Nukhailawi (born 10 August 1986) is a Paralympian athlete from Iraq competing in the F41 classification throwing events. He won a bronze medal in the javelin at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and followed this four years later with a silver in the same event at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Athletics career Nukhailawi represented Iraq at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, entering the shot put, discus and javelin throw. His best result was in the javelin, in which he finished third. Nukhailawi also competed for Iraq at three IPC Athletics World Championships, winning a silver medal in the javelin in 2011 in Christchurch. After the 2012 Paralympics, the International Paralympic Committee reclassified the F40 category, creating two new classifications. Ahmed Naas
Ahmed Naas is a Paralympian athlete from Iraq competing in the F40 classification javelin throw. He won a silver medal in the javelin at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. Athletics career 2012 Summer Paralympics Naas took up athletics after being spotted by a coach whilst playing football. He took up the javelin, but dropped the sport in 2009 after a coach said he lacked the athleticism. He returned to the sport in 2010, taking up the javelin full-time. His results at local competitions saw him selected for the Iraq team at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where he attended training camps in Baghdad and Turkey. At the Games he entered the F40 category javelin event. There in his fifth throw he recorded a distance of 43.27m, a new world record that put him into the lead.
