Iranian Results In Men's Freestyle Wrestling
Wrestlers from the Iran have taken part in most of the major men's freestyle wrestling competitions over the years, in particular the Summer Olympic Games, Olympic Games and World Wrestling Championships. Iran first participated at the Olympic Games in 1948, and has sent wrestlers to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then, except for 1980 and 1984 due to boycotts. Freestyle Wrestling
Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling originated from Great Britain and the United States. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. American high school and men's college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. American collegiate women's wrestling is conducted under freestyle rules. Freestyle wrestling, like collegiate wrestling, has its greatest origins in catch-as-catch-can wrestling. In both styles the ultimate goal is to throw and pin the opponent to the mat, which results in an immediate win. Unlike Greco-Roman, freestyle and collegiate wrestling allow the use of the wrestler's or the opponent's legs in offense and defense. Freestyle wrestling brings together traditional wrestling, judo, and sambo techniques. Mohammad Mahdi Yaghoubi ( fa, محمدمهدی یعقوبی; 2 April 1930 – 25 September 2021) was an Iranian bantamweight freestyle wrestler. He competed at the 1952, 1956 and 1960 Olympics and won a silver medal in 1956. Nabiollah "Nabi" Sorouri (1933–2002) was an Iranian welterweight freestyle wrestler. He was a member of the national team between 1953 and 1960. He won gold medal at the world championships in 1957 and placed fourth at the 1956 Summer Olympics. Mohamed Ali Khojastehpour Birang ( fa, محمدعلی خجسته‌پور بی‌رنگ‎; 1 July 1931 – 2007) was an Iranian flyweight freestyle wrestler. He won a silver medal at the 1956 Olympics and placed fourth at the 1959 World Championships. Khojastehpour was born in a family of eight siblings and took up wrestling aged 14. After retiring from competitions he worked as a national wrestling coach. He died from a heart-related disease. Mohammad-Ali Fardin ( fa, محمدعلی فردین, 4 February 1931 – 6 April 2000) was a prominent Iranian actor, film director and freestyle wrestler. Biography Early life Fardin was born and raised in a poor area in southern Tehran. He was the eldest of three children. After graduating from high school, Fardin joined the Air Force and became a freestyle wrestler in his twenties; he won a silver medal at the 1954 World Wrestling Championships and placed fourth in 1957. Acting Fardin was a popular lead actor in Iranian cinema, and was known by the title, ''King of Hearts'', after his lead role in an Iranian film of the same title (''Soltane Ghalbha'').
