Sean Bagniewski
Sean Bagniewski (born 1983) is an American politician and attorney who has represented the 35th district in the Iowa House of Representatives since January 2023, which consists of parts of northwest Des Moines in Polk County. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Early life Bagniewski was born in 1983 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, in a trailer park by a single mother. He attended Theodore Roosevelt High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Truman State University and a Juris Doctor from Drake University Law School. Political career Bagniewski clerked for Governor Tom Vilsack and served as chair of the Polk County Democrats prior to his election to the Iowa House. Bagniewski announced his candidacy for the open 35th district seat in the Iowa House of Representatives shortly after decennial redistricting in 2021. Iowa General Assembly
The Iowa General Assembly is the legislative branch of the state government of Iowa. Like the federal United States Congress, the General Assembly is a bicameral body, composed of the upper house Iowa Senate and the lower Iowa House of Representatives respectively. The Senate consists of four year terms and the House consists of two year terms. The General Assembly convenes within the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. There are 100 seats in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing 100 single-member districts across the state, formed by dividing the 50 Senate districts in half. Each district has a population of approximately 30,464 . The House of Representatives meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Polk County is located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 492,401. It is Iowa's most populous county, and home to over 15% of the state's residents. Diane Brandt
Diane L. Brandt (August 28, 1938 – June 1, 2010) was an American politician who served in the Iowa House of Representatives from the 35th district from 1975 to 1983. In 2003, she established an endowed fund with Iowa State University to provide scholarships for women in science, engineering, mathematics and agriculture, which came into effect in 2012. A commemorative brick was placed in the Plaza of Heroines outside of Catt Hall on Iowa State's campus to honor Brandt. Mike Connolly (Iowa Politician)
Michael W. Connolly (born October 31, 1945) was the Iowa State Senator from the 14th District. He served in the Iowa Senate 1989 – 2008 and was an assistant majority leader. Education He received his B.A. and M.A. from Loras College. Career Connolly spent 30 years in the public service, 10 of which were spent in the Iowa House and 20 years in the Iowa Senate. Patrick Joseph Murphy (born August 24, 1959) is an American politician who served as Iowa State Representative from the 99th District and Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives; Murphy was also the Democratic nominee for Iowa's 1st congressional district in 2014.
