Ion Maiorescu National College
__NOTOC__ Ion Maiorescu National College ( ro, Colegiul Național Ion Maiorescu) is a high school located at 8 Nicolae Droc Barcian Street, Giurgiu, Romania. The Giurgiu City Council decided to open a gymnasium in 1868, and work soon began on a building. Ready in little over a year, the school opened in November 1869. It had eighteen pupils taught by two teachers. Nicolae Droc Barcian joined the faculty in 1870, rising to principal in 1873 and becoming a prominent local figure. Traian Lalescu
Traian Lalescu (; 12 July 1882 – 15 June 1929) was a Romanian mathematician. His main focus was on integral equations and he contributed to work in the areas of functional equations, trigonometry, trigonometric series, mathematical physics, geometry, mechanics, algebra, and the history of mathematics. Life He went to the Carol I High School in Craiova, continuing high school in Roman, Romania, Roman, and graduating from the Costache Negruzzi National College, Boarding High School in Iași. Nicolae Dărăscu
Nicolae Dărăscu (February 18, 1883 – August 14, 1959) was a Romanian painter. He was influenced by Impressionism and Neo-impressionism. Biography Born in Giurgiu, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest between 1902 and 1906, in the class of George Demetrescu Mirea. After graduation, he was awarded a scholarship to the Académie Julian in Paris (which, as an admirer of its former students Nicolae Grigorescu and Ştefan Luchian, he had wanted to attend). Nicolae Cartojan
Nicolae Cartojan (December 4, 1883–December 20, 1944) was a Romanian literary historian. Born in Uzunu, Giurgiu County, his parents were Anghel Cartojan and Maria (''née'' Petrescu). He graduated from Bucharest's Saint Sava National College in 1902. He then enrolled in the literature and philosophy faculty of the University of Bucharest, where Ioan Bianu was one of his professors, and graduated in 1906. Early on, he developed an interest in early Romanian literature and in researching the manuscripts of the Romanian Academy Library, where he worked from 1906 to 1912. At the same time, he was a teaching assistant. From 1912 to 1914, Cartojan attended speciality courses at Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin. Giurgiu (; bg, Гюргево) is a city in southern Romania. The seat of Giurgiu County, it lies in the historical region of Muntenia. It is situated amongst mud-flats and marshes on the left bank of the Danube facing the Bulgarian city of Ruse on the opposite bank.
