The International University of Catalonia (UIC Barcelona) is a private university in Barcelona, Spain, created in 1997 and recognized by the Parliament of Catalonia by Law 11/1997, of October 1. It is part of the Xarxa Vives d'Universitats. It has two campuses, one in Barcelona and the other one in Sant Cugat del Vallès. The Xarxa Vives d'Universitats (, acronym: ''XVU''; English: "Vives Network"), formerly known as Institut Joan Lluís Vives (English: "Joan Lluís Vives Institute"), is the network of Catalan language universities. XVU was founded in 1994 and it is headquartered in the Valencian Community, in the city of Castelló de la Plana. On May 21, 2008, it was integrated into the Ramon Llull Institute. Sant Cugat del Vallès (; es, San Cugat del Vallés, link=no) is a town and municipality north of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Known as ''Castrum Octavianum'' in antiquity (which literally means ''the castle of Octavianus'') and as ''Pins del Vallès'' during the Second Spanish Republic, it is named after Saint Cucuphas, who is said to have been martyred on the spot now occupied by its Monastery of Sant Cugat, medieval monastery.
