International Community for the Relief of Suffering and Starvation (ICROSS) is an international non-governmental organisation that provides health and development services for pastoral communities in East Africa. The organisation was formerly known as CROSS between 1979–82, standing for Community for the Relief of Suffering and StarvationICROSS a Kenya-based international non-governmental organization, charity, and private voluntary organization founded by Dr. Michael Elmore-Meegan and Dr. Joseph Barnes. Thomas Michael Kevin Elmore-Meegan (born 26 March 1959, in Liverpool), also known as Michael Meegan or Mike Meegan, is a British-born Irish humanitarian and the founder of several charities and non-governmental organisations, specialising in anti-hunger and community health care programmes. His brother, Simon Elmore, is a Munich-based musician. Joseph Barnes (Irish Doctor)
Joseph Barnes (14 November 1914 – 4 May 2017) was an Irish physician and medical missionary who worked in leper colonies in West Africa in the 1940s. There he worked with sisters from the Medical Missionaries of Mary including Sr Mary de Lourdes Gogan. Most notably, he co-founded International Community for the Relief of Suffering and Starvation (ICROSS) with Michael Elmore-Meegan. Born in Belfast, Barnes was educated at Synge Street CBS and University College, Dublin. He lectured in tropical medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Rift Valley Province ( sw, Mkoa wa Bonde la Ufa) of Kenya, bordering Uganda, was one of Kenya's eight provinces, before the Kenyan general election, 2013. Rift Valley Province was the largest and one of the most economically important provinces in Kenya. It was dominated by the Kenya Rift Valley which passes through it and gives the province its name. According to the 2009 Census, the former province covered an area of and would have had a population of 10,006,805, making it the largest and most populous province in the country.
