International Carbon Reduction And Offset Alliance
The International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA) is an industry trade group for providers of voluntary carbon offsets. It was established in 2008, and aims to promote industry self-regulation based on its ICROA Code of Best Practices. Members produce an annual report demonstrating compliance with the ICROA Code. History ICROA was launched by eight carbon offset providers on June 9, 2008. Along with the initial eight, ICROA has been open to new members which meet its membership criteria, and this was reflected in their early announcement that they intended to increase fourfold over the following twelve months. Nevertheless, the co-chairman of the organization, Jonathan Shopley, stated in 2008 that most offset providers would not be qualified to join. With ICROA headquartered in the United Kingdom, the eight founding members consisted of five British firms ( Carbon Clear, The Carbon Neutral Company, ClimateCare, CO2balance and Targetneutral), two from the United ...

Industry Trade Group
A trade association, also known as an industry trade group, business association, sector association or industry body, is an organization founded and funded by businesses that operate in a specific industry. An industry trade association participates in public relations activities such as advertising, education, publishing, lobbying, and political donations, but its focus is collaboration between companies. Associations may offer other services, such as producing conferences, holding networking or charitable events, or offering classes or educational materials. Many associations are non-profit organizations governed by bylaws and directed by officers who are also members. In countries with a social market economy, the role of trade associations is often taken by employers' organizations, which also take a role in social dialogue. Political influence One of the primary purposes of trade groups, particularly in the United States, is to attempt to influence public policy in a dire ...

Contraction And Convergence
Contraction and Convergence (C&C) is a proposed global framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. Conceived by the Global Commons Institute CIin the early 1990s, the Contraction and Convergence strategy consists of reducing overall emissions of greenhouse gases to a safe level (contraction), resulting from every country bringing its emissions per capita to a level which is equal for all countries (convergence). It is intended to form the basis of an international agreement which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions to avoid dangerous climate change, carbon dioxide being the gas that is primarily responsible for changes in the greenhouse effect on Earth. It is expressed as a simple mathematical formula. This formula can be used as a way for the world to stabilize carbon levels at any level. Advocates of Contraction and Convergence stress that negotiations at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change NFCCCare governed sequentially by ...

Carbon Emission Trading
Emission trading (ETS) for carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHG) is a form of carbon price, carbon pricing; also known as cap and trade (CAT) or carbon pricing. It is an approach to Climate change mitigation, limit climate change by creating a market with limited allowances for emissions. This can lower competitiveness of fossil fuels and accelerate investments into Low-carbon power, low carbon sources of energy such as wind power and photovoltaics. Fossil fuels are the main driver for climate change. They account for 89% of all CO2 emissions and 68% of all GHG emissions. Emissions trading works by setting a quantitative total limit on the emissions produced by all participating emitters. As a result, the price automatically adjusts to this target. This is the main advantage compared to a fixed carbon tax. Under emission trading, a polluter having more emissions than their quota has to purchase the right to emit more. The entity having fewer emissions sells ...

Clear (UK Company)
Clear is a UK-based carbon offsetting company, founded in 2007 by Dr Bruce Elliott, Neil Chapman and Ben Hedley. UK Government's Quality Assurance Scheme Clear were the first carbon offset company in the world to qualify for the UK Government's Quality Assurance Scheme for Carbon Offsetting. They differentiate themselves by only offsetting using Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) which have been issued every time the United Nations prevents one tonne of Carbon dioxide equivalent being emitted through carbon projects registered with the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Research Clear has a research arm which has produced a variety of reports on subjects such as the carbon footprint of the UK's speed hump population, and the carbon footprint A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, service, place or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Greenhouse gases, including the carbon-containing ...

TerraPass
TerraPass is a social enterprise that provides carbon offsetting products. They are headquartered in Houston, Texas. TerraPass use proceeds from member purchases to fund greenhouse gas reduction projects. Carbon portfolio TerraPass's portfolio of carbon reduction projects is divided into four project types, all based in the United States: *Wind energy. TerraPass purchased Green-e-certified wind Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from wind farms and calculates the carbon reduction from these RECs based on the EPA eGRID methodology. Wind farms help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by displacing electricity that would otherwise come from burning fossil fuels such as coal. *Farm methane digesters (or "Farm Power"). TerraPass funds emissions reductions from digesters that collect the methane from animal manure on dairy farms and burn it, often generating renewable energy (the heat energy from burning methane can be used to generate electricity; the manure, as the source of methane, ...
