International Association Of Women's Museums
The International Association of Women's Museums (IAWM) is an organisation with its foundation office in Bonn (Germany) and its administrative office in Merano (Italy). The network was founded in 2008 in Merano and transformed into an association in Alice Springs (Australia) in 2012. It has the goal to connect women's museums worldwide and to advocate for their interests. IAWM is led by six board members from different continents. The chairwoman is currently Mona Holm from Norway and the coordinator of the network is Astrid Schönweger from Italy. Goals IAWM's goal is to promote culture, arts, education and training from a gender perspective. Furthermore, the association wants to foster exchange, networking, mutual support and global cooperation among Women's Museums. Conducting research and the development of projects, exhibitions, new initiatives, community activities, seminars and conferences is another goal. The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), located in Washington, D.C., is "the first museum in the world solely dedicated" to championing women through the arts. The International Museum of Women (IMOW), headquartered in San Francisco, California, is an online museum that covers women's issues worldwide. Since March 2014 it has been part of the Global Fund for Women. Creation and expansion I.M.O.W. was founded as the Women's Heritage Museum in 1985. As the Women's Heritage Museum, it produced exhibitions, public programs, book fairs, educational resources for Women's History Month and honored local women. In 1997, a group of Bay Area teachers spurred the drive to create a larger museum by raising donations. United States Army Women's Museum
The United States Army Women's Museum is located in Fort Lee, Virginia. It provides exhibits and information related to the role of women in the United States Army, especially the Women's Army Corps. The museum was originally established in 1955 as the Women's Army Corps Museum in Fort McClellan, Alabama. On October 5, 2011, the museum announced it would close on October 31, 2011, due to lack of funds. KØN - Gender Museum Denmark, formerly Kvindemuseet (Women's Museum), is a history museum in Aarhus, Denmark focused on the cultural history of gender and sexuality in Denmark. KØN was originally founded in 1982 as a women's history museum, and is housed in the former Aarhus City Hall, built in 1857. In 2016, the museum's thematic focus was expanded to encompass issues of gender and sexuality in the broadest sense, and as a result of that, the museum's name was changed to KØN (Gender in English) in 2021.
